Kay guitars

Post by ploppy »

When i first started learning guitar in the mid '80's,like a lot of learners, the first thing i bought was one of those Kay guitars from the catalogue for about 80 quid.
I can't remember the exact model but it was sunburst, rosewood board, two chrome covered single coils and some sort of bigsby look-a-likey trem which was really rough on your hands.
The action was horrendously high and probably more suited to grating cheese, and nearly put me off learning but the guitar did look kind of cool.
Within a couple of months i flogged it and saved up for a squier tele.
Thing is, if i had kept it and had it set up properly would it ever have been playable?
There's loads of Kays crop up on ebay - are they generally shite like mine was or can they be set-up to play well?

Stupidly sold it to get engaged in '88.
It was black, white guard and had an absolutely lovely maple neck, cost me 189 quid if i remember right and i sold it for 100.
Big mistake as we split up a year or so later!
