Jag or Modded Jagmaster?

Post by peecheeclean »

Which one should i get? of course, I'd change the neck, hardware, and pickups in the jagmaster if i decided to go that route.

save up and get a jag. or buy a vista jagmaster if you need humbuckers.

i guess then it depends on what kind of neck and pickups you want... that's something no one else can tell you.

have you played either?

for jaguars: vintage neck, or 9.5" radius?

vintage neck = CIJ 62/66RI of some sort (single coils)

9.5" radius = MIM Classic Player (single coils or humbuckers)

for jagmasters: which one are we talking about? you know there's arguably 3 different versions (24" vista, 25.5" w/o conversion, 24" with conversion).

what kind of neck would you put on the jagmaster? you have fairly limited options here, but would probably not want to switch out the vista neck.

last but not least; humbuckers or single coils?
i have played both. i am more for humbuckers or stacked single coils.
as far as jagmasters, either vistas or the new ones with the conversion necks...either way you gotta gut the electronics.

wow. nice.
i played on a friend's vista before and didn't really care for the pickups.
unless he changed them without me knowing...which is highly possible b/c he likes to mod anything.

If you want humbuckers, you could also consider Squier Supersonic, CIJ Jaguar HH or Classic Player Jaguar HH. The Classic Player Jag HH has the humbuckers with the adjustable coil tap features and the Jag trem.

Do you like a strat trem or Jaguar trem? If you go Jagmaster, definitely go Vista. I had a Chinese Jagmaster and it was ok, but not better than a Jag. The Vista Necks are Jaguar necks for the Japan factory. I had one and it was fantastic compared to those matted conversion necks on the current ones.

What kind of switching do you want? Jagmaster is simple 3 way switching versus the more complicated Jag switching. Not hard, just more to learn. You need to play both before you decide.

The Chinese Jagmasters really aren't that great. Mine's taken a lot of work just to get it to a playable, reliable standard. It was dirt cheap, however, and I've learn a lot from modding it.

Save up and get a Jag 2nd hand.

I was honestly eyeing a white classic player or that gunmetal red cij hh.
I'm more a fan of hardtails (even though i have a american tele)...I play way too hard to deal w a trem that comes out of tune very easily.
It's just extremely hard where I live to find any decent music store that has all the options available to try them all out, hence me asking the forum.
as far as coil tapping, I am a fan of it...

If you don't really care for the rhythm circuit maybe the blacktop jag?

so.. by that saying then the jag/jazzy trem is perfect for you.. just toss some 11's or 13's and you will never have tuning issues.
kinda like any guitar that is setup correctly

from what you've mentioned in the thread the cp jag HH would probably do you well

So in other words you might buy a Jagmaster body? And presumably everything else gets changed because it's branded Squier?

if it was a vista, then no...if it's a newer jagmaster, the body is decent, but the neck, hardware and pickups are yuck.

replacing then neck would be a monumental pain. You'd either have to put a standard scale neck on or move the bridge for a true 24" scale neck.
+ the new bodies only come in black and scumburst.

probably
but for any sort of tuning stability on a shortscale you need the tension that the thicker strings provide.
