Hi and Parts-O-sonic

First of Hello I'm new.

The reason I'm here (apart from that human need for community that I suppose is the only reason anyone is anywhere), is that I recently acquired some Duosonic bits and this seems to be the place for some tips, ideas et cetera.

What I have so far is the body and neck from one of the 90s mexican reissue jobs. I've bolted it together and alls well.
The next stage I thought would be to sort out a bridge but then I get torn between making it look as much like an old duosonic as possible and just putting a hard tail bridge on and having done with it.

I 'spose in short: what are people experiences of doing this kind of thing?

Just to correct my self, not that anybody has waded in, what I was actually asking about was: 3 saddle bridge Vs Strat style 6 saddle bridge. I hate Tremolos so in my mind it breaks down to 3 or 6 saddle not Trem Vs Fixed and I mix up the words.

But whatever I'm putting a Toronado bridge on it because it was the nearing thing I could find with out waiting on a ebay auction for a 60s duo bridge.

So that is that. As a last direct question before I go: Has anyone heard the Seymour Duncan Antiquity Duo-Sonic pick ups. Seems like an obvious choice if they are any good.

is the body vintage or is it from a 90s duo as well?
if it is vintage then you will need to sort out proper bridge placement
the bridge you picked up is going to work really well on it.. and no duos have ever had a trem setup.. so nothing to worry about there..

i haven't tried the seymour duncans.. and mine had hot rails in both the neck and bridge when i bought it, i swapped the neck pickup out for a diMarzio class of `55 (but i really dig diMarzio pickups..)

Nope both neck and body are '93, part of the reason I didn't get the 60s ebay bridge is that I sort of felt it should go on vintage body. I'm glad you think the one I went for is going to work, I've still got to wait for it to come from Wisconsin to me in the UK . I was never thinking about a trem, it just seemed like that from the post because some times I fail to use the right words!

I've now moved onto dithering about pickups. So many tempting options but such a leap in the dark.

yeah a very common mod is to toss a Toronado bridge on them, or when building from scratch/parts

as for pickups.. that always boils down to personal preference. Seymour Duncan pickups and i have never gotten along very well.
but then again, you gotta go with what you like.
get some photo documentation of the process happening.

another one of our members from the UK has been waiting over a year now for a guitar from wisconson that he payed for up front from another shortscale member. dude dropped off the face of the earth. im assuming he still lives there

May i recommend a Stealth Duo?

great little guitars, kind of sucks that you got hold of a body without a bridge, those buggers are bastards to find. I ended up paying out the ass for a vintage one for a musicmaster restoration, believe me if i could have found a reissue duo i would have done that and saved a good bit of money. The newer toronado bridge is common to do, plus people like string through although you need the right tools if you choose to do that. As far as pickups go i'd recommend some basic Alnico V magnet pickups that you can stuff under mustang pickup covers [robroes]

That guitar looks very nice, like a little brother to a custom/deluxe tele. I've got one of the 72 custom reissue which I love but there is no way I'd be able to make mine look as good as yours on this my first go at painting/lacquering

Here is how it is going so far...

Both the paint and poly lacquer are super cheap as this was my first go at it, I'll probably strip it all off and do a different colour at some point, but I've learned a lot doing this and just want to get the dam thing playing.

Not to say that I think this finish is done, I still need to do a bit of sanding and some patches on the back may need re-doing.

I've got all the electronic gubbins I need and I picked up a pair of white robroes (ha makes be feel like a proper shortscaler typing that) once I choose some pickups this project should be nearly ready to play.

However:

I've just realised in ten or more years of guitar playing I've never done anything with tuners. Can I just get any-sixinline-thing to go on this duo?

Do I need THESE to make THESE work?

What do I need to measure et cetera? I cannot believe how throughly I've confused my self trying to order these tuners
