I tried to buy the Yui Hirasawa Les Paul from Japan but the store never answered my e-mail.

So are these licensed by Fender/Gibson or straight up copies?
I mean what with the weird bridge and headstock decal and weird tr pickguard route and all...

I wonder how Fender stands in regards to these...

I think that's where you're supposed to stash your subpoenas from Fender.

IIRC, I believe that the patents on headstock shapes from Fender and Gibson are not valid in Japan, for some reason. I'm not sure exactly why. The famous "lawsuit" era only applied to Japanese guitars that were exported to be sold outside Japan. If you look on the Japanese websites, there are loads of new non-Fender/non-Gibson guitars available from various Japanese makers that use the traditional Fender or Gibson headstocks.

the lawsuit was against ibanez and was thrown out by the japanese judge. it ended up being tantamount to a warning though and from then on japanese companies were a little more careful with their export models. a little more anyway. tokai continued making exacting les paul copies but took "Les Paul reborn" off the headstock and replaced it with "Love Rock". basically the japanese government is going to protect their own economy so they are going to favor japanese companies when it comes to things like this. and why shouldn't they; the US and most other countries do the same thing. hence why most of these guitars are blocked from import into the US.

Same here. As much as I love the classic Mustang, this set up is pretty rad.
