DuoSonic resurrection
I've been thinking about pulling this mexi-sonic out of the closet and 'doing it up' abit. I know these have been gaining ground for the past year or so but I dont think I want to go back factory on it (the tuners, pickguard and nut really blow on these things).
So in the pictures you can see that its all factory but the pickguard is broke in several places (thank fender for 1 ply) and the paint is very thin... these problems aside everything else makes up a real cool guitar.
My thoughts are these;
70's fender 'f' tuners
3 ply w/b/w (or yellowed pearloid)
Black paint (thicker than factory of course)
p/u's (pearlgates and a duckbucker in neck)
What do you guys and gals think? Would you go dif? Would you leave the factory decals on the headstock? Would you even bother with a build up?

haha gotcha and yeah, ive seen a bunch of these around and their prices are going up. a year or so ago I was seeing these everywhere for 100 bucks and now I see them in shops for between 250 and 400. I know alot of them have been chopped up and discarded as trash after the pickups or neck has been removed, thats why I dont want to just part it out completely.
This is one reason I've really been having to go over the "get it out of the case or not" question... also that for every 10 I see only one is black, mostly see red and blue ones about.
One that subject, does anyone know where you can look up how many of each color of a certain model was made?

oh no, see thats the thing. The paint quality suuuuucks that they used on those things (along with everything else fender painted in those years imo), it now looks like plastic.
I hate the fact that the few RI's we have gotten of the duosonics have been just thrown together on a whim. I want to be able to display this one with my other fender guitars and not have it stick out like a sour thumb.

Alrighty so I got the guitar all together (aside from a few pickguard screws - put some in on order for myself and Haze so be in this week) and it sounds great.
The case was put together to not refinish the guitar and Im glad I didnt, looks awesome!
Haze hooked me up with a real cool pickguard that has turned a very nice mint tint
I added a black cover to a texas special I had for the neck position and put a black d-rail in the bridge position
New 1/4 jack, wire and 3 position switch
Got the neck straight and set intonation (which is pretty good with 11's and stock equipment)
The knobs are wonky awesome! Tone knob is a great big old amp knob and volume is a smaller amp knob. I like the action of the knobs, easy to swell with
pinky!
Im still going to get a set of 70's f tuners for the guitar and I might order in a duckbucker for the bridge position.. dont know yet.
Alright, with all that said I got the guitar out and my line 6 amp to do a demo..... my daughter pitched a fit to play and so now all I could was snap a pic of her playing the guitar

I will do a demo of the guitar if she naps early enough...
