EHX Double Muff & Germanium Big Muff

Post by johnnyseven »

Anyone got either of these? Just wondered what people thought of them, i'd previously written them off but I saw some clips yesterday and I was impressed. Anyone know if the double muff can be modded to make the double/single mode footswitchable?

I have the new Germanium Muff. I like it a lot. Loads of tone variation for the money. Very old school sounding pedal. Quite warm, not very harsh or shrill. Not much of a pedal for metal but great for blues, rock, Led Zep type stuff. Sounds huge with both sides kicked in together.

Thanks for the info, in fact I think I saw some of your posts on the EHX forum in which you praised this pedal. Unfortunately i've now agreed to swap my MXR EQ for a Mellowtone Singing Tree so i'm not in the market for one anymore.

I really think you'd need to try a Double Muff out with your own (or very similar) setup; having JACKSHIT control over any aspect of EQ or tone is always a turn-off for me- too trebley? Tough tits.

I'm interested in the Germanium Muff. I'm still a bit confused by the Bias and Volts control (the Volts only seems to have 1 function - simulate dying batteries). Saying that, it does sound good in the PGS demo.

Also, there is a way to mod the Double Muff to make the Muff 1 and Muff 2 switchable. Someone posted a few days ago on HCFX, but i've seen it before on other websites.
Yes.

I am still trying to get to grips with the Bias knob, it does something to the sound but i'll be darned if I know what!! It seems to add more crunch on the overdrive side.

I'm still really tempted to get a Germanium Big Muff. Hot Rox are selling them for £62 which, if it's as good as people say, is a really good price for a double pedal.

You wont regret it. It's a lot of pedal for the money. Love mine, so much tonal variation to be had and played with. I got mine from Hot Rox. Great price.
