i used to play 13's, but whilst sounding thick it killed my left hand. i've worked my way down to 10's now, which seems to be an alright compromise of playability and not caning my hand. hopefully after some physiotherapy sessions, it might get back to 11's.
tweaking the truss rod is quite simple, just remember how far you've turned it (small increments are better), so you can always go back to what it was. say 1/4 of a turn at a time.
