ok so, for my bday/xmas, my fiance' is buying me a Melancon guitar made to my specs (her dad is pals with the guy that owns it). they only do tele and strat style guitars, and i am trying to get him to build me a shortscale or a jag. do you guys know of any high quality small companies that build any short scales by hand so i can give him something to reference aka nudge him to build me a shortscale?

I dunno but looking at that website I reckon he should build you a duo sonic with slightly excentuated curves and the most outlandishly figured and coloured maple top possible. Make sure you request a green pearl scratchplate for teh mojo!!
Seriously though how about just showing him some pics of shortscales and seeking out some plans - you'll find them knocking about the interwebs with google and searching here and Offset - I'm sure he can work out what to do with some reference. Hrrrm ... not sure if seeing other people who do builds will spur him....but it sure would be some great market research for a new product line!!!!!11111!!!!111!!!!!!
