almost two grand? weren't these 6-700 bucks new or something? You could almost buy a Bass VI for a little more. Fuck some of that. I'm building a baritone based off of a Musicmaster/Jag and it'll probably cost 400 or so, tops.

Ive got a 4 string bass body at my moms house (stored with several other bodies and necks) that Ive had for at least 15 years.. Its shaped like a jag and was a 4 string with same headstock as a fender. I was looking at that 6 string build and thinking to get it up to the house and put in a waiting list as a project or other wise. I do remember it had plastic and metal on the guard but I (of course) dont have anything aside from the body. Ill grab it wed, maybe you guys n gals can tell me what it is.

Horrendously overpriced. It's ridiculous how much these things are these days, like Haze said, they were $1000 less new.

I don't own one, but I played one several times in-store. It's a pretty nice feeling bass (Baritone Custom and Jaguar VI are the same instrument, different name, and are both Jag versions of the VI w/o trem) and plays pretty well... but I don't think it is really any better than, say, the Schecter Hellcat VI ($599) which I ended up buying instead. The one I was playing (and saving for) was $800Cdn new, and that was a year and a half ago. I didn't play it amplified very much, but I can't see the Jag controls being particularly useful (ie. rhythm circuit) for the VI sound, but it would give another tonal option... I imagine it would be similar to the neck pickup of the Hellcat VI alone.

There's a pretty nice little demo of the new Agile VI jobbies a couple threads down in this forum, which are even cheaper than the Hellcat VI, it sounds really good. It could be a nice viable alternative.

Why not? Through a Twin Reverb the rhythm circuit on Jags/Jazzies is instantly useful. Through most other amps it's pretty good for jazz. I can totally see playing basslines on it and using the lead circuit for more guitar-like sounds.

I play through a Twin Reverb, and gotta agree, I love the rhythm circuit of my Jaguar with it... but the neck pickup of my Hellcat VI through it isn't so hot (though neck+middle is awesome). That said, the neck pickup alone through a bass amp is hella thick... Working with conjecture here, if the controls work the same as on a standard Jag (which, as I recall, they do), the rhythm circuit might lose a fair bit of note definition... that's fine, if it's what you're after, but it's rarely what I'm after, particularly with a VI style instrument.

Either way, nearly $1800 for this thing is ridiculous.

I know... it's still ridiculous, though

Perhaps if people wouldn't drop the cash for a bit the price will fall back to reasonable.
