67 coronado II w/neck pickup only?

Post by hotrodperlmutter »

so for our honeymoon, we're now going to florida instead of hawaii, so i was looking for any guitar stores in the area, and found Miami Vintage Guitars.

looking through their inventory, i found this lovely oddity.

It's a coronado I with an early (or possible even late) coro II neck. A coro II would have f hole binding as well as the bridge pickup that gives it its name. I can't remember the details of it but I'm fairly sure coro IIs started with block and bound necks. the I models certainly had no binding and dots, so perhaps it's a coro I neck that has had an incorrect replacement decal.

What it certainly is is overpriced. It should be more like half that, $650-950.

If the tag says $1850 I doubt you could walk out of there with it at a fair price.

Take a look at this. Same colour but an actual II with both pickups and the blocks and binding. $900 cheaper albeit an auction with no bids yet but check the completed listings for a similar guitar with no bids at $1100 starting. Can you imagine them knocking $900 off the price?

It really is worth around $700 on ebay. There's no chance of you getting a fair deal on it.

I'm fairly sure I got a cracking deal but I paid $1150 for an LPB II in great condition other than some paint scratches around the pots.

The prices on their website/g-base are fucking ridiculous across the board.

The store however is in ghetto ass Hialeah, so maybe they'll be willing to haggle.

The bridge and tailpiece both suggest an early Coro I. That doesn't add any value in the way it can do with some guitars, but it means it has a non-adjustable archtop style bridge and less cool looking tailpiece. There is a tailpiece that would add value through being so unusual but the one here is just basic and standard. The only cool thing about it is that it's early and the body is probably a 66 (first year for the I model).

I've never seen a II with a dot neck. And the spec charts I was just reading say it B&B only so I'm fairly sure the neck is just a I neck (not that I imagine there's any difference) and the decal is wrong or replaced.

When you go in to barter make sure you know the prices I models usually go for.

actually, upon closer inspection, it appears it is a I decal, but has a line through it just like the letters do. in the description on the site they actually say it's a I, but the title says II.

i probably won't be making any sort of offer on it, as i really can't stomach that finish.
