Cheap Shortscale for away from home?
I am currently away from my home (and therefore, my Mustang, because my airline sucked) and I am feeling the depression already. I am hurting for something to play which I may or may not end up bringing back depending on how much I like it. My budget is 350 or so. What do I do?
a) Get one of the Squier Bullets. Meh, but cheapest.
b) Get a Jagmaster, but I don't feel like paying 270 for the one I played at the local GC/SA.
c) Hope somebody is dumb enough to sell something cheap on ebay/CL (some guy was selling a AVRI Jazzmaster for 500 around here, and I was raging that I missed it)
d) ???
Halp?

The CV Duo Sonic is cheap and cheerful, you can get them for fair prices [not $300+] pretty easily. Other than that i'd recommend one of the Rondo guitars, they make some shortscale strats and teles that are somewhat hit and miss on quality but with some time setting it up are great little guitars for the money

Wiki says the mid 90s models were made in Japan, so I could see why it would cost $350, but if you didn't care about where it was made you could probably get it cheaper. Squier Strats aren't shortscales by the way. The only shortscale Squier guitars are the Jagmaster and Telecaster Thinline.
Bronco Bass
Squier Strat w/Hot Rails,
flea market nylon classical,
Ibanez bass w/Quarter Pounder X 2

Well, no. Not really. The thinline vintage modified is 24.75 scale. Not a true shortscale really, more Gibson standard scale.moore65 wrote:Wiki says the mid 90s models were made in Japan, so I could see why it would cost $350, but if you didn't care about where it was made you could probably get it cheaper. And you forgot about the Classic Vibe Duo Sonic.
And also, as this is strenuously discussed in these parts not all Jagmasters are shortscale. As memory serves, the Vista series are 24". The early re-releases of the Jagmaster (2003 - 2004) was 25.5" and recently they have reverted to 24" necks but they are conversion necks, not true shortscales as you can't stick say, a mustang neck on the Jagmaster re-issue bodies.
I know that was a rehash. There we are.

no shit?moore65 wrote:Squier Strats aren't shortscales by the way.
neither are squier bullets (fucking strats), but they were the first guitar he listed in the OP. and the new squier jagmasters aren't really shortscales in the true sense of the phrase.
plus, i wouldn't waste money on another shortscale if i had a perfectly good mustang at home, and just needed something to noodle on in my spare time. that's why god made affinity strats.
