The site isn't held responsible for bad deals anyway. We've been through this time and time again....anyone can follow the rules to get into the classifieds, and people still give them a hard time. Really the disclaimer should be "if you don't know who's selling you something and they don't have a reputation (we do have a feedback forum) of making good transactions, deal with at your own risk. And even so, still deal with at your own risk.

yes but you can't just go posting spam all over the knowledge forums. there's a classifieds forum for a reason.

Exactly

If we start making exceptions because we think the item is cool, or somebody was looking for something in particular it becomes unfair. Who decides that? Everybody should be held to the same rules and practices.

Really I don't give a shit, people can do what they want it's not gonna effect me either way, but that's no way to run a forum.

Seems like your making some indictment of the community with your second point that I don't understand.

People are upset by race to the classifieds even if it does follow the letter of the rules but it's obvious the person has no interest in the forum cept for selling stuff. They have a right to express that feeling.

While the site might not be held financially responsible people do certainly turn here looking for answers or resolution if they feel cheated on a deal or an item never arrived. So I really don't understand your point.

My point is just that anyone can follow the rules to get to the classifieds.....And once they're there it's still up to the person buying to decide if they really trust the deal, even if they continue to post in the other threads after they've earned the privilege to view/post classifieds. I know the 50 post thing probably does deter a lot of spammers (and by spammers I mean the craigslist type who post 97 Toyota Supras with 450hp for $1000),

You say that people turn here if they have problems with transactions (Mickie still has my tuner and my $20, but I did use the pub to inquire about it), but this is not ebay.....deals are not legally binding, the message board is not financially responsible, and there is no higher power keeping people from just not coming here anymore or answering emails if a deal goes bad, no matter how long they've been here.

I'm just saying you should use common sense in the classifieds. As someone who personally got burned by some total cunt who sold me a jagmaster back on the jag-stang forum I definitely know the risks of dealing with strangers. I get what you're saying, you can't pick and choose which shameless solicitations are ok because they seem legit or useful or whatever, I can respect that, I just can't see the harm in it any more than someone like Yun.

In England (I can't comment on any other legal system) a contract made on here is legally binding. True it has nothing to do with the board or anyone running it. But English courts will enforce the contract. I know what it really comes down to is do you have enough information to get the other guy in court. Personally if I'd lost much more than a hundred quid and I had the other guys name and address, I'd be tempted to go down the small claims route.

Not an argument for or against letting people post ads on discussion threads I realise. Just throwing down some tangental knowledge I guess.

I saw this nearer to the time it was posted and my initial thought was to move it to the mod forum or to make a comment here, maybe edit the post to remove the content and leave a 'save it for the classifieds type message'.

I figured in this case though it's such a rare guitar, rare enough that WTR started the thread by saying he'd not seen one previously, and WTR very experienced with buying and selling online that it wasn't in the interests of the forum to try and protect him from a bad deal. It seemed like he'd be able to handle it well enough.

We have some rules that are bent for people all the time. If we were strict to the rules shad, sloan and robroe would have been banned many times over.

Now I want an Avalon II. Actually it is really called a "Rock Oval" and it was made before the other Avalon,possibly in Italy where it was designed by Wandre Pelotti in the early 60s.
