cavity shields
Nulla è reale, tutto è lecito
Re: cavity shields
Both mine are the same. They have the black shielding paint, and there are common ground wires running from every switch and pickup, and the bridge, to the back of both of the volume and tone controls.franklin_Dudeacough wrote:I have a CIJ Jaguar and i'm just wondering if they shoul have the shields in the control cavities, coz mine doesn't have any, and the earth goes all around the body to the bridge cavity.

I couldn't find any brass shields when I was doing my '75 Duo Sonic project, so I went down to a local metal supply place (K&M Metal here in Riverside) and bought a box of "brass shim stock". It's basically a roll of brass material 100" X 6" X .004". I think mine is a bit thinner than stock Fender brass (which I think - don't quote me on this - is .006" thick), but I wanted to make sure I could cut it to size relatively easily. It's easy to cut with standard kitchen scissors, and the slightly thicker stuff may be workable as well. IIRC, I paid $12 or so for the roll of brass.
The company that makes this stuff is called Lyon Industries. They even have a website and everything!
Here's the info in case anyone else is interested in cutting their own brass shields:

If you do, please be careful - this stuff can be sharp and you can get cut pretty easily if you're careless.
