1.That Vista Jag is a great deal at $350.

2.No you could not find it cheaper unless you didn't care about little things like the neck scale, finish, and overall quality. None of the THREE DIFFERENT Jagmaster generations are identical models made in different countries.

3.The pickups sound great in these guitars if memory serves correctly. Actually replacing the pickups would hurt the resale value at this stage (if they are in fact original), and by the sounds of it he might not even be keeping it for a long time. Only a skeevy guitar shop salesman would have you believe that this guitar's pickups are not worthy of any serious use.

that "misinformation" on the price.. that is here and there. First off ya, Ive did a good deal of looking around at these guitars since this thread (not to mention the ones that I am familiar with that have sold in the shops Ive worked at) and 350 is a good price BUT its not "unheard of" to find them from 200up. Not everyone knows there is a difference between the vista and the others, most pawn shops jump on ebay/musiciansfriend/samash etc and look what they are selling for new and then cut 20 to 30 percent from that (which new sale price is between 249 and 279). Also all across america there are little hole in the wall music stores that have NOS guitars (such as these) for sale... and the sticker price will reflect new in the 90's (which would be a great price) and if you offer 'cash today' youll most likely knock off another 50 to 75 bucks. The net is not the last word in buying a guitar, matter of fact IMO it should be the last resort if you want a "looked for" guitar. Unless you got a real cool community of folks to ask around

I know this very very well to be true, in years past (when I wasnt broke as hell from the economy going to sh!t) I would drive all over the place finding equipment that I just 'had to have'.

I know what you're talking about though, I paid $200 for my 60's Hagstrom Viking II (the "elvis" model, sells on ebay for at least 5 times that amount), $350 for one of the earliest Ovation Tornados ever made (three digit serial number, and even on normal production models these guitars are worth a few hundred more than that anyway).....

But that was dumb luck, being in the right place in the right time. Had I been looking for either guitar before it turned up I probably wouldn't have even found them. In theory you "CAN" find something cheaper, but the time and trouble it would take would make it no longer worth it in some cases. Musicians Friend had a call-in deal last year on Rickenbacker 330s for $1000, and I jumped on it since I've always wanted one and that was the cheapest I'd ever seen. There's probably one sitting in a pawn shop somewhere for $700? Of course, but I'm not going to search the country for it, if it even is there in the first place.

Yeah he could've paid $50 at a yard sale, but as far as what this guitar would likely go for on ebay/gbase/etc providing you can even find one, he paid on the lower end of the spectrum. Most guitar shops worth their salt would know the difference between a japanese squier and an indonesian or what have you and would try to get the most out of their investment.

When someone says "you could have gotten it cheaper" the question I ask is where? If you can't show someone a link to a place where they could have bought it cheaper, then it isn't really being helpful, it's just provoking buyers remorse to someone who got a good deal on a good guitar he can likely flip for $100 more on ebay if he chooses.

Before reading through this thread, I wanted to suggest a Jagmaster (I've seen em new for about $276, I believe) or a Classic Vibe Duo-Sonic used for about $210.

But you're paying more for your used Vista Jagmaster than the new ones I've seen. What is it about this Vista Series Jagmaster that makes it more expensive

I don't know a whole lot of technical stuff about Jagmasters, just that I was impressed with the two that I've played in the past year. So I'm just honsetly curious (not makin a point at all )...What is it about this Vista Series Jagmaster that makes it more expensive?

it's basically a japanese fender with a squier logo stuck on it. a lot of the components were the same as the japanese jaguars of the time (i.e. the neck). it's a true 24" scale.

the newer ones are made in korea or china and use conversion necks and, a lot of people opine, poorer quality parts.

essentially, the newer ones are not. they are variations made in china/somewhere else with cheaper materials, and not actually fender shortscale necks.

Vistas were cool, other Jagmasters aren't. To me anyway. A CIJ Jag neck vs a cheap strat neck, I know what I want.

$350 is a great deal on one, I've never seen a Super-Sonic or Vista Jagmaster for that little in GC or Guitar Showcase.

true, but now i see how god damned frustrating it is to see 15 noobs go on and on about how the pickups suck, yadda yadda, it's the same guitar but cheaper??!?! shit.

i'm going to have to make some sort of thread that will need to be stickied on this exact subject, detailing all the differences (some i admittedly didn't know prior to shortscale.org), and finally put all this to rest.

the vista's are amazing guitars with absolutely no work. the rest are great if you like sub-par pickups and a goofy ass neck, shite tuners/tort, and jaguar knob placement. it's time there was a comprehensive list on display.

im amazed how good condition it is considering its been sitting in a guitar center for some time

there are a total of 11 scratches. Other than that it looks as if it's barely been touched.
