Apologies for turning necromancer and reviving an old thread.

Anyone have much experience of the Halfords stuff? I'm planning to spray the Jagmaster. No qualms about stripping and priming it first.

Car spray paint is car spray paint: hard wearing, because it goes on cars. I finished my tele in it, and it looked good. A friend at work stuck more slavishly to preparing, spraying, rubbing down between coats, lacquering etc. with the same materials and the guitars looked amazing.

Did you add a clear coat of lacquer last, or just do a few layers with the paint?

B&Q sell plasti-kote stuff, comes in a few fendery colours. i bought a daphne-esque one to use on an old squier strat but haven't gotten round to using it yet, so can't vouch for quality...

I let the paint dry for either a few days/weeks (can't remember which, but whichever was right...) then let the lacquer dry for the other one. What I'm failing to say is that one or the other (can't remember which) needed a month to cure, ideally.

Stewart, that Plasti-kote stuff is brittle as fuck - my guitar painting friend recommends against it.

Avoid plasticote and just go for regular paints.

Get the Grey Matt Primer, your colour of choice, and then the Clear Lacquer.

8 coats
8 coats

Would be my formula. Hang the guitar up to paint and don't lay the coats too thick. 20 minutes between coats, leave a day between colour and clearcoat.

Then leave it for like... a month.

Actually, choose the colour you want, then read the tin to see what colour primer it recommends.
