What I ended up buying (it's here!)
A few days ago I posted this thread here asking about P bass copies. There were some good suggestions, including real deal fenders, Squire CV (I love the look of the fiesta red one), and such. Thanks again, all who answered.
Here's what I ended up buying.
I plan on taking off the sticker, replacing the selector knob with a chicken head and laughing at MaMo's futile attempts to get me to play a P bass.
Incidentally, please check my ad in the classifieds.

Got it! pics!
So far I love the neck. Pickups sound punchy with some decent bottom in position 1, but I've only plugged it in for a few minutes (see below). pretty balanced for a Gibson style bass. No real dive, which is interesting 'cause when I first picked it up the body seemed light. finish has a texture to it. Might be a refin as I haven't found any indication that these were made in sonic/pelham blue (really well done if it's a refin). Frets are decent, neck is straight as far as I can tell. It's got a shim. Took the sticker off, replaced selector with a chickenhead.
Issues: E string rattles and buzzes like crazy. The string is touching the fret. Might need a new nut? The black tuning peg is kinda funky, but works. the electronics need to be looked at too. the pickups are fine, but one of the volume knobs give me a buzz when I turn it down past 8, then stops after it passes 2. the other volume know doesn't work, and the tone knob doesn't do much.
a little work needs to be done, but I'm happy with it!

Don't forget to try building up the nut slot with a superglue and talcum powder paste and recutting it once it's dried, there's no point sticking a new nut in there just for that.damienblair17 wrote:Issues: E string rattles and buzzes like crazy. I actually just shimmed the nut with two small pieces of cardboard from a cheez-it box. It's much more playable now, but there's some wiring problem. I should probably find a schematic. Try to make things worse fix it myself.Doog wrote:Don't forget to try building up the nut slot with a superglue and talcum powder paste and recutting it once it's dried, there's no point sticking a new nut in there just for that.
It's kinda fucked up that he didn't mention any of those problems in the listing. Wiring and nut problems are easy enough to fix, but are definitely something that should have been mentioned in the listing. It looks like he listed it after only looking at it, and not plugging it in or testing it out or anything at all.
