Yeah same here.
The first time I heard his music proper was in that funny vid Jcyphe posted with the dancing dad.
First time I heard him was when he "performed" on New Years Rockin' Eve. My friends and I were all talking over it a bit, and I said: "I can't really hear his singing over all us talking, but I can still hear the Autotune." My friend Amanda now says that every time he comes up in conversation.

If Gibson was in it for the money they'd be a bit smarter - what Nickelback fan has $3200 street to burn on a guitar? If this were an Epiphone, they'd KILL with 14-17 year-olds blowing their allowances.

Clearly we're all missing the point. Gibson is being ironic on a level none of us can even grasp.

now i have one more reason to punch that bloated bit of hot air in the teeth.
saddly he once bought me a jug of beer while i was waiting for the headstones to play in 1999, i declined the free copy of the cd and told him they were already an overgrown shitty middle of the road bar band. but that was after i drank my free beer.

Yeah, nickelback sig guitar is crap. I don't mind the idea of the actual guitar (although way too pricey), but the color and the nickelback sig kill it.

As far as Justin Bieber, I am pretty sure I heard about him through DOTS birthday wish list....

Backwater, Bowlwater, Brownwater, Pisswater, WateredDown,

Is this fucking real? Might as well do a signature model for Andre Agassi.

I've got to dip out of this Fender / Gibson wasteland. These assholes should be ashamed of themselves. Fuck this and fuck the Fender custom shop bullshit.

Hey $4000.00 on this ... ahh I want to set my eyes on fire now. unh ... DuskTiger.

The real question becomes what is the purpose of a Signature model. Is it to pay tribute to an artist that has made a significant contribution while using that particular brand of instrument? Is it simply an attempt to get fans to shell out big money to connect with their favorite artist? Gibson's motivation is obviously to sell guitars using Chad Kroeger's name and fan base. I have nothing against that, but it seems extremely premature to pay tribute to Chad's contribution to Gibson when it appears that he has barely ever been seen playing one until just before he gets a signature model. PRS giving him a signature model would make total sense because he has played their guitars exclusively since Nickelback started.
Eric Clapton played Strats for almost 15 years before Fender approached him about a signature guitar. The same could be said for other Fender artists like J Mascis, Elvis Costello, and Gibson artists like Jimmy Page, and Slash. These artists have a long history playing those brands of instruments and rightfully deserved signature models. One of my favorite guitar brands, Taylor guitars, does signature models for those artists who have played their guitars for an extended period of time and are identified with those instruments. They also don't pay artists for endorsements of their instruments, which is probably what has happened in this case. Kroeger has done most of his work with PRS and not Gibson so I don't see how people who know him are going to immediately think Gibson when they see him. I don't care what guitars he likes to play, but Gibson giving him signature model when he just started playing their guitars is ridiculous!

Is the point of this signature model maybe to get kids to buy Gibsons (not even the Signature model) or even Epiphones because he's now associated with the brand via the Signature model? Because what self-respecting adult would buy any expensive guitar just because it was associated with a band like Nickelback?

I don't get super-expensive signature models anyway. I like Andy Summers' work with The Police, but I'd never even consider spending that much cash for a guitar (Andy Summers Signature Tele) just because it's a "signature model".

+1. Most signature models are too expensive.

Totally agree.
Whilst i'm not against an artist having a sig model i dont really see much point in sig models, unless as i have said before you play in a 'tribute' band and happen to have money to burn.
When i played guitar for the esSex Pistols i used either a cream Tokai Love Rock or a white Westfield Les Paul. Both were cheap, looked the part and got me the sound.
