That's a compliment, sir...

I hadn't heard of them until a couple of weeks ago so it's totally unintentional!

The comparisons we've had so far are The National and Sparta!?!... I'm more than happy to add American Football to the list

I've actually satisfied my lust for black and tort (for the time being) with my Toronado... LNK

Still looking to do a parts Strat at some stage though, Red and Tort the favourite at the minute... probably with a maple neck

Thats a lovely Toronado :) nice buy.

Parts strats are a great learning curve and I'd recommend doing one.

EP update.

Drums are down and sounding good.

Dave is still having issues with his bass gear... latest shout is an American Standard Jazz. Didn't like the Mexican P-Bass, has been through an Ibanez Jet King too.

We're back in the studio on Sunday for Bass with a borrowed Jazz.

then to record main guitars and maybe a teeny bit of Cello too, Corran (previously in Empires) is coming up to Dundee to put in a shift.

Monday morning has been set aside for atmospheric guitars and overdubs/extra percussion.

Monday afternoon/evening is vocals.

Fingers crossed we'll emerge with four new tracks and a five song E.P, one of which has brackets in the title.

We need an E.P title.

We've enlisted the mighty Stewart to come up with some clever artwork and are now discussing such things as packaging/launch gigs.

Any Jewlpack ever lost it's essential functionality a matter of hours after purchase.

I meant to ask what you were planning packaging wise, cos it'll have a bearing on the artwork. I vote digipack based on looks alone, not because it makes my job easier!

It's looking like it'll be a 4-panel digipak like the one above, stew... with a matt finish. Feel free to use all the space :)

They're more expensive but I think the extra is worth it.

Also, possible to make it so the artwork looks good in black and white as well as colour?

The CD's and wallets will be colour but we're looking at some black and white posters and T-Shirts... would be awesome if it'd look good both ways.

If we add up all the recording/mastering/duplicating/printing/t-shirts the costs are quite scary though! I'm glad there's 4 of us to share it out

Looking forward to tracking the main guitar parts tomorrow. For some reason I always find it quite stressful in the studio, it's a different type of playing required... so difficult to transfer the energy without making even the slightest mistake. I'm quite a messy/chaotic player at times

Right,

FTP Surfer shat the bed on me about 5 times at 99% upload, so I downloaded the FireFTP extension for Firefox and it seems to have done the trick.

Thanks to stewart for the cracking artwork
Thanks to shortscale.org for helping me along with the gear choices :)

I'll leave this up here a few days for those interested

Cheers,

Al

Edit: Thanks to the 8 people that downloaded. It's on Spotify now if you fancy a listen. Gimme a shout by PM if you fancy a listen but don't have Spotify.

Really like this Empires, favourite track was Tired Lights closely followed by Husker. Really good, thanks for sharing.

Cheers guys, thanks for the kind words.

We're off on our mini-Scottish tour tomorrow. Just as the weather is expected to turn snowy... I'm glad I'm not driving the splitter to Thurso (100 miles north of Inverness).

Also coming along for the ride is Luke, of I Build Collapsible Mountains (acoustic, lo-fi lovleyness)

Funny you mention live Hurb, we were a ballhair away from playing in Newcastle but the van hire for the extra day was just too expensive. Maybe next year.
