Is my DS-1 modded

Post by Cody_Pole »

So I bought what I thought was a Marshall modded DS-1 for 50 buck's but I'm not quite sure it's
modded I think it's stock and I got shafted, is their any way I can check to see if has been modded?

What did they say the mod entailed ?

If it's a new resistor or something then open it up and have a look. You may see fresh, slightly less neat solder joints.

This may be a bit obvious but the modded DS1 I used to have had an additional 3 way switch added for different distortion modes plus an clipping LED placed where the O of Tone below the tone pot is situated. Also an on/off LED that isn't red would tell you it's probably been modded.

You said Marshall modded. I've never heard of Marshall modding other people's pedals, or is it a different Marshall other than the amp company?

Its a mod to make it more "marshally"
Have a look inside it. It should show signs of someone forking around in there  My SD-1 has been owned by hotrod and i think cowbell and theres flying leads on caps and stacked op amps and huge leds for clipping and a huge led on the front. All sorts of good stuff.

For answers from people who are willing to do the googling for you, I'd go sign up at Bossarea.com/forum/

But since I bothered, try these places:

Here is a stock DS-1 PCB: http://www.monteallums.com/images/DS1_PCB.jpg

Additionally, since you can't be bothered to use google for yourself, I'll just paste the relevant content below from Wampler's article:

Classic JCM-type Marshall Tones:
LOCATION CHANGE TO:
C3 .033µF
R17 15k
C2 1µF
D4 1N4148 Connected in Series to another 1N4148
D5 1N4001 Connected in Series to another 1N4001
C5, C9 1µF
R13 OPTIONAL - Change to 1k for tons of gain, if you do this, also change c8 to 1µF

I'd check for some of those.
