Silicon Fuzz - Any thoughts? -

Post by 24HRS2MDNT »

I've been checking out overdrives, distorions, and fuzzes trying to find the right sound. I have a Tiny Terror and that is the best sounding distortion to me.

I'm finding that I really like Fuzz sounds, Silicon fuzzes. Throback pedals really nail the sound I'd like to get. Their Overdrive Boost is based on a vintage Coloursound Overdriver pedal. I also really like the demos of Analogman's silicon pedal. Aside from those kind of vintage re-issues I'm really liking the Devi Ever Torn's Peaker. Nice to hear something like those classics but with a new twist.

Any suggestions or thoughts on Silicon fuzzes?

If you like the Torn's Peaker, there's a kit for it if you're handy with a soldering iron:

I like the regular old Si Fuzz Face, but it depends on the amp. They like an amp that's a bit scooped, IMO.

Ahh cool. I may just do that. The shipping is as much as the parts though.

Just found a schematic for the Mad Prof Snow White auto wah so I may have to try making up some pedals.

The silicon Fuzzrite is one of my favorite fuzz pedals of all time. But there are so many, go out there and explore.

I use a modified Fuzz Face, but I think it might be good to have a gain range footswitch to select between humbucker and single coil

My personal fave is a standard Silicon Fuzz Face, i use my home made one in this video i did today LINK.
In my opinion Silicon is a Strat's best friend. Germanium cleans up better with the guitar volume but it can be problematic for a gigging musician.
In the past i've had, E13, Roger Mayer, Fulltone, Dean Ramsay, MXR/Dunlop, Ibanez, EHX, Dod, Boss, Behringer, etc. and out of them all the standard FF is my favorite.

Silicon. Is how I roll.
I'm actually making a TP/SodaMeiser combo for myself at the moment.
But my number one, never leave the board, desert island fuzz is a Hair of The Dog which is all silicon as well. Never had any use for finnicky expensive Germanium nonsense.

If you're willing to pay boutique prices, how about a Catlinbread Merkin Fuzz?

Yeah if either of you guys build these, let me know how they turn out. I'd build one, but I've got more unfinished projects laying around than I can bare atm.

Proguitarshop has some B stock of the Torn's Peaker right now, at a discount.Lainkz

So much attention to GERMANIUMS that I thought I was the only one into this Bee Buzz sound. So hard to decide.

I have a torn's peaker and a Tiny Terror and I would not recomend it, the Torn's Peaker sounds better to me on a clean channel and the TT as u know is not clean.... I use it on the clean channel on my Peavey Classic 30..The Torn's Peaker is also SUPER noisy....which PGS does not show in there vid, sounds great and aggressive but not alot of lows.. I also have a Z-Vex Mastotron, BYOC Germanium Fuzz Face, Skreddy Mayo Clone.... With My TT I prefer the Mayo(Big Muff) or the Mastotron....they seem to like my dirty base sound better.... A fuzz Face would be a good option depending on ur fuzz tastes..... I am more of a muff fan....but nothing cleans up better than a quality fuzz face... I would recommend building a couple different fuzz pedals for the price u can buy one for..... Fuzz is a tricky misteress and you can never have enough of it :D
