Also, what are the pups like? If I go down and look at it I will not be able to take an amp and you never know if they will have one. I will take a pocket tuner just to make sure there is a signal though.

I've never played a II or III but I have a 67ish Hagstrom Viking II....pickups have a different casing but they're the same thing IIRC....I know mine's a hollowbody so there might be some tonal differences but they're pretty bright and fendery. My viking is brighter and a little hotter than my Rickenbacker 330.

That is pretty much a guitar I've always wanted to own....if you pick it up and end up wanting to turn it for what you paid let me know

Yeah, the color makes it, that's the guitar Mark Arm played in Mudhoney so it's one of the more desirable models/colors. I think Timhulio still has one just like it. I would still try to haggle, maybe down to $500 at least. This isn't the steal of the century but it's about $100 less than what you'd expect to pay on ebay or gbase etc.

Yeah I'd definitely want it if it's a solid player and doesn't need any sort of neck work or serious body damage or anything....I might need like a week after you make up your mind to get the money though, as I would throw my les paul up on ebay and probably try to get rid of my fake rickenbacker in the classifieds while I'm at it.

I hope it works out for you, since I really don't need more guitars but truth is I have wanted one of these forever.... I couldn't pass it up for that price as much as my gf might kill me for buying another guitar :D

Those IIIs are super cool and provided it's all original and all in good shape, you could do a lot worse than $500 (assuming the seller will go for it).
The other guitarist in one of my former bands had the exact same guitar, colour and all. The pickups on these are very, very bright and the necks are shredder thin. All of the IIs, IIIs, and HIIs I've ever played tend to be a bit noisy and might rattle and buzz quite a bit, unless setup perfectly. They're definitely not for everyone but at that price, you might as well go find out if it works for you.

Just to give you an idea on value, here's a 1965 II, in pretty good condish.
LANK

Around here and at that price, it's probably already gone.

These are my ones. You'll notice on the earlier Hagstrom IIIs (mine are 1964-5) there's the metal switchplate and the pickups are rounded.

I'd say $500 is a fair enough price for that one. That's like £300. Look out for crackling to the finish on the back of the neck. They're good guitars if you can get on with the skinny necks- ie when I play mine I tend to wind-up playing chord-y Mudhoney garage stuff rather than fiddly shit.

I momentarily forgot the difference between years....

What is this thing then? A parts III?

It's a very late Hagstrom III, using up parts yep. 1969-70 most likely.
