Hamfisted metal scratchplate making.

Post by wwrrss »

First of all excuse all the badly aimed photographs cause my camera viewing screen is smashed so I literally just have to point, click and hope.

Battered Aria Pro II Cardinal Series, under the cross of gaffer the wood is pretty mashed up.

Headstock.

Cardboard template cut to size.

Part way through jigsawing out the metal (old electrical enclosure back plate) I ended up cutting and re-cutting everything more than once, the neck slot was too small, as was the pickup hole.
And the pots and switch were too short to fit through the body and the plate, so I opened the holes out so they could rest against the body and the knobs would cover the damage.

Bad photo. when I was screwing in the guard I dethreaded the screw head towards the top and it's sticking out an annoying amount without moving, so the gaffer will stay til I fix it.

cool guitar. I would have just given it a mini travis bean style pickguard.

Nice job. Good to see someone step to the plate with metal work (other than the petrified wood and copper guy, whose name I forget).

He is that. All his stuff is really cool, not just the guitar stuff (to be honest, I didn't really dig the petrified wood stuff, but that's a personal taste issue that I couldn't overcome. I still thought it was brilliantly executed though and worked really well).

This guitar sounds better now, it's weird, obviously metal helps the tone.

I don't give much credence to anything regarding woods and tone when amplified but my understanding is that any CONDUCTIVE metal in and around the pups will impact the magnetic field and therefore cause a change - even if minute but likely detectable on a science gadget thingummy. Anyone got any hard facts?
