recommend a short scale guitar
hello all,
i am new to the board and i would like to receive some recommendations on a short-scale guitar.
now, i must admit my knowledge of guitars is somewhat limited, as i'm most often found behind the drumset. though recently, i've picked up a fender toronado and have started playing gigs again. i've noticed that even with the 24.5" scale length, i'm still have trouble feeling comfortable with moving around the neck for longer periods of time. genre wise, i mostly compose surf/garage rock songs, so i dig the thick, bluesy sound the toronado is able to muster (especially through my super six reverb). the problem still lies in the length of the guitar (i'm a smaller guy).
so here is my query: can someone recommend me a modestly priced ($300-400 range) guitar with a scale of 22.5"?
something that will still maintain most of the qualities i like about the toronado, but not necessarily replicate them identically. i have intentions on recording with the toronado still, but need something smaller to use on gigs so that my wrist/forearm doesn't get so much of a strain.
thanks!

Squier Classic Vibe Duo Sonic (with .11s or 12 gauge strings) or a Jagmaster. The old Vista Jagmasters can be found for a decent price or get the cheaper conversion neck Chinese Jagmasters.

You might also check out the new Fender Blacktop Series. They have a Jaguar with humbuckers which is 24" scale.

For cheaps?!
Do you like Maple or Rosewood necks?
Maple: Any CV Duo you can find on the cheaps, or any 90s reissue Duo-sonic
Rosewood: Any cheap Vista Series Jagmaster or one of the cheaper newer Jagmaster
For NICE?!

I haven't played one and they're not well-known, but the reissue Harmony Stratotone is highly recommended by:
Charlie Musselwhite
Luther Tucker
John Hammond
Tom Waits
Smokey Hormel
Marc Ribot
A set neck, Kluson tuners. I believe it's 22.5". See the December 2010 issue of Vintage Guitar Magazine, page 24.
