looowwwww tunings [aen-standard, drop-doog]
So i picked up a set of Bass strings and put the A string on my P-Rails tele [80 gauge] and want some suggestions for low tunings to mess around with.
Some that come to mind
Aen Standard
dadaae
Drop-DOOOOOG
A-A-D-G-B-E
using a bass string to drop the E to an A
low tunning suggestions? I might drop on the extra two strings on me tellecaster for extra lowsss

I'll probably do the same with my p-rails tele. .80 seems to be the right gauge for tuning a full scale to A. Still plenty of tension, no flubbyness. Intonates alright although it does just sit there on the nut since its not cut for such thick strings.
Jag is tuned to aen standard, fucking lovely. So lovely I turned on the basement this late in my apartment and gave the dirty little secret a last go before i ship it off to paul tomorrow.

I like 70-50something-30something-15 for B F# B B, but I also take that down to A-A.
For Aenstandard (lol my iPhone just predicted that word after "Aens") I go 54-11 with 2 15s for my unison As.
Also for one song I tune my unison as to G. Cause I play a lot of G.

I also like B-A-D-G-B-E, it can make for some neato sounding "power" chords with a little experimentation. I've also used B-E-D-G-B-E and Bb-A-D-G-B-E recently for Casa Bonita tunes.
I really want to buy 7 string sets in the future (fed up with the massive bass string ball-ends poking out of the back of the Doogcaster), but it seems impossible to get hold of 11s with a 70-75 7th string and with a non-wound G string. Bum.

I used to play about half of our set in an old band of mine, was lots of fun.Doog wrote:I also like B-A-D-G-B-E, it can make for some neato sounding "power" chords with a little experimentation.
Hmmm. . . a 59 gauge string would be super nice for my C A# D# A C C tuning. I use 10-52s currently, but that Low C is super loose. Although some of the looseness is part of the appeal.Mages wrote:I just set up an old strat of mine with a set of these 7-string strings
threw away the .010 and tuned the whole thing down to B standard (B E A D F# B). ungodly low end!

I have a guitar dedicated to that tuning, I like it so much.stewart wrote:I use DADFAE for a few things... i wouldn't say it's a particularly low tuning (cos it isn't) but it sonds kool. It's essentially just an open minor.

same here. the guitar changes but there's always one in that tuning. it's reasonably quick to switch to and from onstage too, which helps matters.laterallateral wrote:I have a guitar dedicated to that tuning, I like it so much.stewart wrote:I use DADFAE for a few things... i wouldn't say it's a particularly low tuning (cos it isn't) but it sonds kool. We use A standard.

Mothers Anger used standard tuning with the low E dropped to A, so you get like a dropped power chord kind of on the low two strings. A friends band tune down to G standard and use a bass G string instead of a guitar E string.
The downside for me is my cab back panel rattling like fuck because of the air i am moving, i've ended up drilling port holes behind the drivers to let some air out..
