So the second week we recorded a load of improv stuff. but this week we actually thought a little about what we were going to play(sort of)

It's nothing amazing but I thought you could hear it as your my shortscale homeys

It's not really called that, but I was drinking yop when I posted and thats how my mind works.

Tis very fun indeed, the question in my mind though is do we add a bass player to the mix? I sway either way i just cant decide. I don't really want to add another person to complicate things. but I also don't want to sound gash.

i'll check this out tomorrow Hurb.

I was thinking about the need for adding more to this and wondered if there was anyway you could trigger some samples or other sequenced stuff. Otherwise I really like the rawness of drums and guitar, especially if you play with some lower tunings that could fill up some of the gap that might be filled by a bass player.

I could do, but I'm unsure I want to go that route as I have to take enough to practice as it is. and I am liable to trip over if I have samples to deal with.
I really want to get a boss digital delay though for short choppy samples.

The wobbly bass is kinda growing on me I think it sounds a little like an organ to my ears, I think I could maybe go down that route trying to emulate a organ for bass.

I'll have a proper listen to this tomorrow when I'm back in work and have some time to myself but: really impressive, Hurb. Was really interested to listen to it, since this is sort of the kind of stuff I end up playing when I go to that improvised music workshop I go to. Don't reckon you need a bassist - liked the sub-octave stuff (how were you doing it - two amps?). What I most wanted to hear was what the balance between proper improvisation and (oh god, forgive me) motifs was (you know what I mean - semi-planned little sections you can drift back to if you wander). Great stuff. In a similar vein - have you listened to Warm Digits yet?

maybe look at a looper as well as a DD Hurb then. I went to see Russian Circles recently was impressed watching him manage 3 loopers as well as his other pedals to create some amazing sounds. I know what you mean about managing everything all at once with samples/etc but I thought this might add another dimension. As I said I love the rawness of just guitar and drums on the 2 tracks

cheers, was two amps yeah. It was funny this week actually. I had to ask for a bass amp and the guy who runs the place(the same place that hosted the futureheads in there early days) couldnt figure out why I would need a bass amp. he looked confused and was like what are you gonna use that for??

I actually want to get into the song writing process now.

cheers mate missed this post. I have had loads of loopers in the past but I dunno I think the looper thing has been done to death and I was hoping to just keep things as simple as possible. I just have a rc-2 looper at the moment if I was going to loop anything I would loop the bass. I think. The only loops I want to do with my guitar is with my pds delay so I can change the speed and make it all garbley just for background noise I did that on one recording I will post that up tonight when I am back home. would really like the pds 8000 for this as 2 seconds of loop is limiting.
