Truss Rod Nut Squier Super-Sonic
Moderated By: mods
You could probably just stick that neck in a normal pocket, but you'd have to be careful about the bridge location and you'd also have to drill new screw holes. It's not ideal but it sounds easier than trying to copy that pocket using pictures as a guide and then trying to source a neck plate to match (in gold, no less).
Shabba.
I plan on using neck screw bushings so I won't need a neck plate and they come in gold!
It's a simple matter to counter sink them - lots of basses uses them.
As for the bridge I have a top loading gold bridge that should be easy enough to locate for proper intonation.
I'm getting excited about this project more and more! Just need to find the right body!

I stopped by Sam Ash today and picked up the regular Squier Truss rod nut that I had ordered for another Squier neck. I tried it on the Super-Sonic neck and it fits!! Yay!

The Fender part number is 0079849000. Cost was $2 at Sam Ash.
It's not tapered at the end but the fans in the 4 row will not be able to tell!
Also, the Fender part number for the Super-Sonic neck plate is 0035996000. Bad news is that they are all out of them!

UPDATE
A quick update.
I was able to find a 'bullet' truss rod nut. It was for a Fender but it fit the Squier. I also got a set of lefty gold tuners from Warmouth and some gold string tees.

The body is becoming a real challenge. I might have to make one.
I'm thinking of making it into a Brian May Red Special sort of by using three Burns Tri-Sonic pickups in series. Thoughts?
BTW, sorry for the delay in posting this. I was deployed to Iraq for six months and just got back.

I'm feeling the gold. I'm on the fence as to whether my latest Super-Sonic project will have chrome or gold hardware (on faded fiesta red / coral).
If I ever find a Super-Sonic neck only, I think I'll make a slightly mini tele body for it.
Too bad that your Bullet truss rod nut doesn't come in gold.
My other idea for a Super-Sonic is to make one into a White Penguin.

A Whole Bunch of Guitars. Some with sparkles. Some with Pearl. Some with racing stripes.

not to be debby downer here... but missing the bullet, needed a new nut and backwards string tree holes? Are we sure this is even an actual supersonic neck and not some left neck relabeled? Is there a shot of the heel? Is the scale correct?

well, it's for sure a supersonic neck. that string trees being backwards is wiiiiiiieeeeeeeerrrrddddddddd.
Gold hardware gives me a reverse boner, but I'm interested to see this project pan out.

Physical DRM. (ARM?) Joe Carducci is a genius. aha Speaking of which I'd really like to read his book ; the Rock one, not the death of masculinity in screen icons thing that is about to come out.taylornutt wrote:I had no idea the neck was like this. Why would you want extra wood beyond fretboard?
This project is nasty, balls nasty.
But I am looking forward to the results.
Because the necks were leftover Strat necks that they shaved the heel and slapped a new fretboard on them. The SS Vistas were for the most part made from leftover parts in Japan, based on what I've seen. Leftover Jaguar and Strat parts.taylornutt wrote:I had no idea the neck was like this. So when I make my Super-Sonic project, I can just use a lefty custom 24" and it should work fine? My template has neck dimensions as well.Pens wrote:Because the necks were leftover Strat necks that they shaved the heel and slapped a new fretboard on them.
