my band recordings update
Moderated By: mods
Cheers. I've added the behringer dd6 copy to my board for the hold function for extra easy stutters. and the boss rc-2 for some loops. so along with the pds I should have plenty going on.
Thanks again for the checking it all out, much, much, much, appreciated.

i'm listening to the second one you posted, i think it sounds beastin'- there's plenty going on. i can imagine the bottom end will be covered if the drums were recorded properly or micd up at a gig, the kick drum and toms will fill up a lot of space, it's just that the zoom H2 doesn't really pick up certain frequencies all that well.
one thing i think would work with it is some rhythmic/shouty (female?) vocals... how about press-ganging the drummer lass into some vocal duties?
or even double vocals? you've got a decent voice, might give it an extra wee edge.

Yeah vocals are needed. I'm not sure whether myself nor the drummer could take that lead role but I may broach it this week. glad you like it matey.stewart wrote:i'm listening to the second one you posted, i think it sounds beastin'- there's plenty going on. i can imagine the bottom end will be covered if the drums were recorded properly or micd up at a gig, the kick drum and toms will fill up a lot of space, it's just that the zoom H2 doesn't really pick up certain frequencies all that well.

awesome! apart from the first riff it is all just made up as we go along. and that was just one I played earlier in the night that the drummer said she liked. I don't have much time to practice by myself in between practices really.stewart wrote:there's some really interesting stuff going on, it doesn't sound like mindless jamming or owt (not that i expected it to). damn good.

I'm enjoying bands with really sparse vocals these days, I think that might be a good way to start. Fuck an Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus.
There's masses of texture in the guitars there, if it was going to have bass I'd think it'd need to be pretty simple/droney stuff. Bass loops even?
Either way, I like it

Nothing wrong with that steez. Most my favourite music has that context.stewart wrote:Empires wrote:Fuck an Verse/Chorus/Verse/Chorus.

surely more than 50% of BI's songs have a more elaborate structure than that, anyway?
Less of yer moaning.

Had another practice on Wednesday with some recordings. Think I have sorted the bass situation out. the bass amp I had been using was clearly shite. got another one and was able to use the poly section of the boss oc-3. much better sounding. Infact it goes to show how backward the north east is when it comes to new music. I have had bother a few times asking for a bass amp. and this week one guy came in for the money and said '' I have to ask, what are you doing to your guitar? because everyone in the office was surprised when they have walked in and seen only two people and wondered where the bass was coming from'' haha and this is like a well known practice space??? when i explained he just looked confused.
anyway check these couple of recordings and tell me if it's any better.
