Orange Crush 35LDX

Post by Rox »

Last Friday I went to plug in my practice amp ( A Crate DLX15 ) and the speaker was shot . Thought I'd just change the speaker but since I worked a shit load of hours at work I though I'd try something new and headed out to a guitar shop for a new practice amp since the Crate was about 10 yrs old . After few hours in the store I wound up leaving with an Orange Crush 35LDS . Solid state amp with some built in effects and a tuner . Yay .
But let me just say .....Great fucking amp . For a little 35 watt solid state amp it's a great piece . Not that I bought it for effects ( however a positive bonus ) they sound great . Some of the chorus effects make it sound almost dead on to a Vox AC or Trainwreck Liverpool . At least to my ears it does . I tried to play "Lights" from Interpol through it and it sounded pretty damn good. I plugged in my Digitech to it and it's a nice little pair . Only qualm I have is it was made in China ( Orange got cleaver and put "Made In PRC " . Told the girl " Made by Puerto Rican Communists ?!!" Okay , bad humor . ) . You'd expect it to be British built by the blokes but you can't have it all I guess.
Clean setting it's nice and crisp . But it takes a while to get it right . It did sound a tad muddy at the shop . But after playing with it I got it clean . Not too impressed with the dirt though . It has a button for some extra overdrive or dirty channel button ( whichever you wanna call it ) and it's okay . Better than a Hot Rod Deville but that don't say much . But with a pedal or processor ? Spot on .
Overall I am happy with it . Does just about anything you need it to do . It's loud for a little 35 watt . Anyone looking for a good practice amp and don't mind solid state I would suggest it . And this isn't coming from someone that is justifying a purchase . It's a good amp . Great amp for $200 .

The little 10W 1x6 Crush has become my favorite amp. The little mid scoop that Danos have naturally is perfectly compensated by Orange's little mid hump. And the 1x6 is the perfect apartment size. Plus Orange is the only company that can make a SS amp that doesn't have fucking WHITE NOISE ALL THE TIME, FENDER!!!

Been looking at getting one of the new black Crushes, but never have any damn money.

My first amp was an Orange Crush CR30R (had it till a bit over a year ago, then swapped it for a Fender Deluxe 85, which was then in turn swapped for a TT+Cab) and it fitted my needs perfectly. Decent clean and overdriven sound, looked cool (which is really why I got it) and it was loud enough that I managed to gig with it.

Very cool amps, although I think my exact model is discontinued.
PLEASE!!!... Tell Me About the Fuckin' Golf Shoes!

The new models are basically the old models. They added some digital effects with a couple of them and changed the speaker impedances from 8 to 4 so the power amps would run a little more efficiently.

I love my little Crush 10. If money was no option, I'd get a Rocker 30. But it would be hard to resist just building a wall of Crush 10s.

The shop near my house is selling those for £60. Looks like a good deal, but I don't need a practice amp.
