honestly this is probably the most sensible solution.Mike wrote:iRig for iPhone or similar portable headphone based solution.

Orange: My favorite amp is a little 10W Orange Crush. These amps have no annoying white noise, are well made, and look ace. The clean tone is "tube" warm, but still has the quick response of a SS. Just the clean sound is highly addictive. The drive is sort of an Orange sound - fuzzy, warm, and midrangy. It's the kind of sound you either like or you hate. The EQ is much more powerful than on most amps, so you have quite a bit of control, but the drive always has the same fuzzy character.SGJarrod wrote:*Orange CD20L
*Bugera V5
*Vox Pathfinder 15
Bugera: A steal for the price/quality. Very well made, but you don't have a ton of control over the sound and they tend to be dark. The attenuated settings especially have a hard time finding any sparkle or chime. Driven hard with a brighter bridge PUP, it's fantastic. If you must have tubes, it's the best choice for the money.
Vox: Great amp. Almost as noiseless as the Orange, but gets a bit louder and has more bass response. The drive is also more "tubey" - you never get as much gain as the Orange, but what you get sounds more organic. The tradeoff is that you don't have as much EQ control. But you get reverb and trem.
None of these are bad choices, it just depends on what you're after.
EDIT: throwing in the Cube 15x - It sounds very good, but very Roland. Not like you're playing through a Marshall stack, but like an excellent simulation of an idealized Marshall. All the sounds are basically good/great, but they often don't "feel" convincing. The headphone and line-out sounds are probably the best of the bunch, though.

if i didn't have the iRig/iPhone combo I would of bot something like a line6 pod.Mike wrote:iRig for iPhone or similar portable headphone based solution.
Remember the iRig also works with an iPad if your ma is feeling generous. The iRig also works with 2nd and 3rd generation iPod Touch as well if you have one of them. You only have to make the initial outlay for the iRig and use just the free version of amplitude but with the bonus amps/pedals/4track recorder its a great solution. Also, if you don't like headphones hook it up to some speakers

I got the Boss Micro BR and just not a huge fan of the headphone based thingies.......and I use the MP3 player on my old ghetto Envy cell phone, have 8gb card for it
I am also liking the idea of a another amp cuz then if friends come over I have 2 amps and when I travel back home I have a small amp to take with me.... I live 3 hrs from my family, went away to college and have never looked back, that was 10yrs ago...lol
Ma never feels super generous....we are not rich.... so $100-120 will be about the limit and will be my only gift, which is fine, I would rather have one kickass gift then a bunch of crap....One yr I did not tell her any ideas and I got a $100 in dress shirts and ties......wtf!? I have wore a tie 5x in my life and rarely wear dress shirts, blue jeans and t-shirts here..... its great when ur mom does not know u at all....

Thnx again to all..... after more research I cannot decide between the simplicity of the Orange CR20L or the mass value and gadgetry of the Fender Mustang I........
I think I am just gonna tell her either or and let her decide for me...that way my Christmas present is still a suprise too![Wink ](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
