It's like a Yamaha SG mixed with a Toronado GT. Pretty unique. Granted the pickup will be shit but the simplicity of design might mean after a setup it's a fair economy. Although I can't tell if that fingerboard is even made of wood.

I know the Maranello's already been mentioned but I thought I'd add the Speedster as it's even more similar. I even thought it was one at first glance.

Quite a good looking guitar to rip to pieces & use as a project. Little coincidence that it's at Wilkinson's too looking so much like an Italia design.

& hello.

Well hello to you too and welcome aboard.

This is my (and Fran's) obligatory 'you kids today don't know you're born' post. It can't be that bad after a setup: that's everything you need to start playing for £40 - in the bad old days, you'd have been looking at spending at least £250 to get your gear together, and that's in olden days money. That's going to get loads of kids playing guitar, and is thus an ace thing.

It's also not entirely surprising since Trevor Wilkninson (of Vintage, Fret King and Wilkinson guitars) owns Wilkinsons.

And he's also the same Wilkinson who owns Wilkinson Sword and is a founder of TVR too, right?

Yeah, bollocks.

Aye, back in the day.... i sold my soul (and Grandma's Wedding Ring) for a Westone Spectrum, a lead, 2 x plectrums and a 5w amp.

Just looked at the link and:
Specification
Type:Musical Toys
This is disheartening maybe?

Maybe, but I wouldn't take the website tagging too seriously as Wilkinson's don't have a musical instrument section online or instore so they've had to stick it somewhere. At a glance it looks legit. 22 frets, truss rod, working bridge, grover style tuners. etc. No doubt it is entry level for kids though.

I reckon the build quality nestles somewhere between a Mexican Fender and a CV Squier.

i'll take a stroll up to wilkinsons at lunch and see what its like if they have one open. I noticed as well that ASDA had a similar beginners package with a strat copy and amp for £60. Enough to make any kid happy this xmas.

Tim and Fran you were lucky, I had to put up with a spanish guitar with an action higher than what Charles Blondin would of been happy walking

That'd be ace if you could Lorez! Would be very grateful. If you can't get it out feeling the weight of the box might give an indication if it's made of balsa or not

OK lets put it this way, its cheap (obviously) but as something thats a bit of fun and a pickup change you never know. Its not full size (scale length was about 20in) , doesn't weight much (in fact the box with the amp and bits weighed about the same as my jag. They had a few left in the shop but said they had sold a lot of them.
