It's compressed sawdust and glue. LITERALLY. The bodies were made at the harmony factory in Chicago IIRC.

The best thing I can say about it is that it convinced me to buy a Duo-Sonic II.

Sorry to dig up such an old thread...

But I wanted to see if you guys thought 199 is a good deal on one of these? They seem to be shitty, but also seem to have boatloads of character.

Agreed. It looks like the strings are like a mile away from the body!

I have a kalamazoo model one amp that's pretty cool like. they were also part of the gibson budget line. it's a little 5 watt tube amp like a fender champ or somefink.

mine is in much worse condition than this one. when I got it the speaker was deteriorating. I replaced the speaker (10") when I was at THD and it sounds pretty cool now. awesome trashy 60s garage rock tonez.

Those have Gibson melody maker pickups in them. The pickups would probably bring $75 bucks each. The necks are pretty well made. Really, the body and the tuners are the only things that are crappy. I've had two of them (had being the key word here) but $199 doesn't sound like a bad price.
