My problem with the sd fuzz was it has almost no volume boost, even when maxed

Read there elsewhere too. Sounds as though it benfits from a pedal in front of it to boost it.

I've also read that it's similar circuit wise to a Fuzz Face - anyone know if that's true?

I curious how your experience with it goes as well, considering you can get them at sub $50 with the 123% price match, it's reeeeeeaally tempting. All the online demos are shit quality but it seems like it covers a nice area from thin and trebly to thick and bassy as you dial the tweak clockwise.

You think so? I thought a couple exposed its musical quality. I like that, its okay having the ultimate bastard fuzz but in a band situation you just become that dude at the back making a noise in the mix.

It's not that, it's the way they were demoed. Even the pro guitar shop, when he's spanning the tweak knob he changes the riff halfway though which defeats the purpose in my mind of hearing the differences in settings. He also really focused on lead riffs, with a fuzz I really wanna hear some chugga chugga rhythm riffs. To me that's usually where fuzzes lose their clarity. I want to hear some electric wizard riffs with it.

i dunno if it's already been said, and i don't even know if it's really a fuzz, but

DWARFCRAFT THE INTERNET is fucking boss. ultra clear on the gewgle settings, and ultra sweet crushing fuzz in the pron section.

While the internet is pretty much my favorite pedal ever, it's really an overdrive/distortion box. Not really fuzzy at all, but full of awesome.

The Fuzz War by Death By Audio seemed to somewhat fit the bill from the demos I've seen. It might be that dudes only pedal that doesn't require one to sell 4 kidneys and a nuclear warhead to buy.

nah, it's not gated. it's like three boosts with a fourth boost as a balls to the wall gain stage.

my 2 cents is stay away from the tweak fuzz... I have not heard a happy consumer yet on this one.....

Russian Big Muff is about as fat as you can get, you can turn up the tone for more upper mid focused leads too though.

I'm looking for a Fuzz at the moment too, actually. I'd like one that's gated and does video gamey sounds, but has some more knobs to twiddle. Something where you can actually control the gate is nice. Thinking of digging out my old Fuzz Factory, but I'm not sure that's the sound I want. At least it has a gate knob.

I wish there was a really good full-on synth pedal. Thinking of getting the newer 9v Microsynth, but no gate control on that.

Try out the Bass Big Muff. I've got one and it sounds silly good on guitar. It's supposed to be really similar to the russian muff.

In comparison to the US muff it's got more low end obviously and tighter Mid's.

I think I have a track with both muff's on them, so I'll just split them and upload a comparison.

In reply to the comments on here about the Coopersonic Valveslapper, I picked one of the old grey ones up the other week for cheap and I must say that i'm very impressed. Even my band were impressed, our singer even said that it sounded awesome and exactly like he thought my guitar should sound. I think the sound is in the same ballpark as my IC Big Muff with the tone stack disengaged, but better and with more control over the tone with the treble and bass controls. The only downside is that you have to use the supplied power supply which weighs a ton - anyone know where I can get a 12v AC (is it DC?)adaptor the doesn't weigh as much as a brick?
