Devi Ever Love?

the hell happened there? I totally wanted that from you but it never worked out I guess.cobascis wrote:I had a Spectacular Aenima before I was cheated out of it!
Never owned one but I've played a TON of her pedals at a local shop that stocks them.
Noise Floor - easily my favorite of her smaller fuzzes. AM RADIO FOR DAZE. Its a Soda Miester with knobs that make it go nuuuuuts
Disaster Fuzz - pretty normal devi fuzz with an oscillation switch
Torns Peaker - freaking awesome, one of the few pedals I've played thats not like anything else.
Aenima - perdy good muffy fuzz, no tone control like i like em. My god does it oscillate once you stop playing though
She'll actually take any two smaller fuzzes and put them in one box for you. Last I heard she was undergoing surgery in November so hopefully she will be back in full health soon so she can make more fuzzzzz
You don't get much further from a muff while staying in the realm of distortion than the SM/Rocket. Speaking from someone who builds those circuits for a living.vincel wrote:I don't care for them. Owned a couple briefly (Soda Meiser & Rocket); sold them without regret. There are way better Muff-family pedals out there, SUF for one.

Err, why? Have you seen some of her posts on HC and places? A lot of these boutique builders seem to have big egos(no offense to the ones that don't). I can't imagine anyone saying they'd consider Zvex a role model.Justyn wrote:I consider her a role model but I have yet to buy anything from her except a t shirt.
The pedals aren't bad but a lot of them do the same thing in slightly different ways.

I don't have anything against her being transgendered, but she has a habit of surrounding herself with yes men and taking out her troubles on others. It gets a bit much when she goes on about Peace and Love and then starts posting ED articles to defame people. She has a habit of going schizo at people at the drop of a hat.benecol wrote:Because she's a transgender lady who handles herself pretty well?
I'll try not to mention too much since I know this forum isn't so cool with cross forum drama, but she's done some pretty nasty stuff and I think a lot of these builders need a bit of criticism. I hope she sorts herself though, she focuses way too much on her physical operations and not enough on her therapy, being trans is enough to drive anyone nuts.

It's cool, trust me I'm very sympathetic towards LGBT issues, and have even rather thanklessly defended Devi herself back in the day.benecol wrote:Sorry, wasn't meant to imply you had any sort of problem with her gender. Also (brace yourselves): the only Devi pedal that's ever piqued my interest is the Heroin Lifestyle.
Isn't the Heroin Lifestyle a Soda Meiser? That's not a bad pedal, one of the only ones I'd consider keeping. I'd consider checking out a Fender Blender though for that kind of sound. Most scramble/octave fuzzes are pretty similar unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast, I found a proper Fender Blender/Clone to have a lot of life in it's own way though.

I just picked up a Torn's Peaker. It will reside in the spot formerly reserved for a Big Muff. I haven't had a lot of time with it on my main setup yet but so far I would say that it's a keeper. It's loud as all hell and really good for that constant feedback/squalling/ampblowup thing that I love. Certainly different than a BM, but it's not really going for that. It reacts really well to rolling the volume back on the guitar, you get a very nice, gritty OD. It seems to retain bass quite well also, I run it into a Boss fake bass player (OC2) and give a good farty, glitchy thump. It's just a nasty dirt pedal, not totally fuzz or OD. I think that once I manage to reign in the feedback to a somewhat manageable level than it will be the cats pajamas. It should also prove to be far more reliable than the BM, which have a tendency to shit the bed in the middle of a show.
Forgot to add, that my favorite workshop times are when I spend 20 minutes at a crack "testing" synth manglers and Spectacular aenimas together.

These are devi's circuits handed over to me, but the originals are all still in her line (soda meiser, aenima)
