The Vox is kind of shitty at taking pedals in my experience. It does that weird thing a lot of modelling amps do where if you run a fuzz into it the top end seems to get cut off when you play hard or something. Never known what's caused that. Mostly only happened to me on Vox amps though(modelers and real ones). Guess they can't take much bass into the front section? Dunno.

Yes, I am aware not having tubes would make an amp sound "not tubey".

I think they sound plenty tubey. The main issue is the tiny speaker. If you get the cabinet, they sound plenty tubey. The dirt on them can get a little harsh though unless you run it through a proper cab. But in terms of a clean platform it reacts more like a tube amp.
