broken bass tuning machine - heelp

Post by Asher »

Hey guys, I had a little mishap today while tuning my bass before practice. The peg wouldn't turn, so I turned it harder. :-/ Big mistake, since it partially stripped the gear washer(?) circle thing and broke the tuning machine. I can't get the A string to tune.

Is there any way I can salvage this by replacing the gear (see the last two pictures)? I'm kinda panicking because we're recording rather soon, and I'd like to fix this

Hmm... If time is of the essence, you're probably better off grabbing a new set of tuners and installing just the one.
I guess it'd be possible to source just the gear but you might want to leave that to when you're less pressed for time.

Yeah, you're prob better off replacing the tuners.

It looks to me those tuners were either from a Squier Jazz V Affinity, or a Bronco bass.

In either case, IIRC, Squier Affinity P Bass tuners would be a direct swap, so you might wanna try that route for something cheap and a quick fix.

Plus it looks better IMO

Thank you so much, hotrod! I got the tuners today, and they fit perfectly. Bass is fully operational :D

How much did shipping cost? If you need reimbursement, I will gladly paypal some money over. I'm super grateful for your help

i don't even remember, and i don't even care.

the fact that i didn't have to throw them away and they worked for you was well worth the ~$2 it cost to send them. 8)
