I played the 1990 and liked it alot. Good stand in for Marshally dirt I thought.Billy3000 wrote:the 22 watt bugera combo sounds damn good! I played a V5 at guitar center though and didn't like it at all... just sounded kinda dead, didn't really have any of the tube warmth that I was expecting. Especially for the same price as all those other 5 watt tube amps, the bugera doesn't hold up. Also, one of my friends used to have a 1990 head, I didn't like that thing at all either, to be fair to that one though, I didn't play through it myself, just heard him play it and it was eq'd to chainsaw mode.
Alternative amps to Orange...

lul, i just sold my laney aor 50 dude!Fran wrote:OLD LANEY!!!!
Srsly. All this new shit, look at Proggys TT, thing fucked up after a month and he bought it brand new. Had to fit new valves. My Laney was made in 1975 and was stuck in a rehearsal room for years (probably abused by every band) and it has'nt been re-valved for years.
Sorry to sound like some corksniffing mojo twat but old Amps seem to have 'it' were as new Amps dont. I bought a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL new and within the first year all the valves went, the plastic input jack (lol) and the transformer, WTF is that all about? I paid £600 new and expect better.
Dont listen to Sloan, he plays in a fag band and never gets past 3 on the volume
it was sweet, but i needed moar channels for recording. also, i had the fucking GH100TI TONY IOMMI SIGNATURE LANEY GUITAR AMPLIFIER HEAD. it ruled ass, but i traded it for a krankenstein (which i later fucked up by trading for a really shit mesa).
about that marshall, i haven't played a good one yet, they all seem cheap. had a jcm900 slx that sounded good when it wasn't fried. i've worked on my pals jcm2000 at least three times, he hates it!
also, i definitely play louder than three.
the orange i played at HOUSE OF GUITARS sounded fucking shit and i haven't had time to dick with them since. it was through a big orange cab, but everything sounded shit through it. maybe the cab was fucked?

its not the head i dont like. its the speakers. they are buzzing like hell, or at least one is buzzing. and i dont know what the problem is. the music store who was fixing it said it was no problem with the speaker. i dont know what to do anymore!Doog wrote:What about the Peavey don't you like? A change of speaker and valves can make the world of difference if you're after a certain type of sound.
Rattley tubes? Does it run 6L6s by chance?
Other thing to try is tweaking the screws around the speaker - loosen them all and then retighten (just snug, not fully tightened). Sometimes if the screws are in too tight they can flex the speaker basket and cause a rattle.
Or you can do what I did when I couldn't make my Ampeg stop rattling: buy a solid state amp.

Nope. Its not the tubes. Theyre all new. That was the first thing to check! Will wrote:Rattley tubes? Does it run 6L6s by chance?

You don't say what kind of sound you're after or what other gear you're using. If you play with dirt pedals i'd avoid an Orange as they tend not to take pedals well. If your looking for a clean amp see if you can find a used Bassman, mine was £450 with 2x15 cab although some people want silly money for them. My Carlsbro 50 Top was £250 and that also sounds awesome, but that was a steal. Bugera amps are great for the cash, try the V55 - I had one and great for the money, Boab has it now and Mike had it before me.

Well just keep an eye out for good deals on the used market I have spotted Twin's for under $1000 all the time. I just scored my '73 twin for under $500 on my local CL
just be patient and a good deal will come around. The TT and Dual Terror are great amps as well I was going to get one of those before I found the twin. The peavey classic's I have heard are very good as well. If your looking for just a good clean amp check maybe for a Fender 85 or Deluxe 85. They are solid state but take pedals very well and go very cheap. Jonny Greenwood used one as his main amp for a while. Good luck

Sorry I didn't realize your were located outside of the states. Good luck with your search if you decide to keep looking.stewart wrote:he lives in finland, silverface twins are about as common there as three legged chickens.SeismicProfile wrote:Well just keep an eye out for good deals on the used market I have spotted Twin's for under $1000 all the time. yes, and you might find a silverface twin on ebay for less than $1000, but if you have the money to ship it to finland and deal with the resultant power issues then you're a braver (or sillier) man than i; see also-weeping_moon wrote:well there is a site called ebay.stewart wrote:he lives in finland, silverface twins are about as common there as three legged chickens.SeismicProfile wrote:Well just keep an eye out for good deals on the used market I have spotted Twin's for under $1000 all the time. you've already answered the question, with a typical dash of confusion thrown in. anyway-weeping_moon wrote:eather do i.robroe wrote:twins cost 1000 dollars.

i don't get it
i have been looking on these amps. but they are to expensive.
what do i think about it? apart from your statement being untrue, you didn't provide any information about what you don't like about your existing amp in the first place, apart from some vagueness about a speaker buzzing. it's not even clear if it's a combo or a head and cab. you asked about "the orange amp". which one? there are lots of orange amps with vastly different specs and price points.weeping_moon wrote:theres no pointless threads only pointless answers.

you're wasting everyone's time. people are genuinely trying to help you, and it's pointless because you have no idea what you want help with. i understand english isn't your first language and tend to give you the benefit of the doubt most times, but this thread is a joke, and you've been especially aggressive and obnoxious elsewhere recently. that's what i think.
