Fender string through short scale?

Post by Sidney Vicious »

Did Fender ever make a string through short scale?

My '76 Music Master guitar came with an old black tolex Fender logo case that has the impression of having held a string-through bodied guitar for many years. You can see the six ferrule impressions clear as day.

only thing i'm aware of that fender did with string through before the 90's was tele deluxes, customs (?), and strat hardtails in the 70's. no shortscales that i know of.

i do know that my mustang barely fit inside my strat case, so maybe your case is actually a regular one that housed a tele or strat...

for reference:

fuck i want that guitar back.

WOW!!!!!! Nice guitar - I'd miss it too.

I'll check to see if my strat or tele fit - can't see how one will - but will report back.

And regular teles, they had toploading bridges on '59s, the same year of rosewood fretboards and hardtail strats.

the 90s reissues were string-through, vintage ones weren't. it could have been modded to take a different bridge though, my old one had been.

no no, i actually had forgotten about those. i thought you were thinking of the 90's duo RI. i am, how do you say, forgetful. which is sad, because i pined for that guitar for a long time before rob traded it to aen.

problem is that i think those are 24.75" scale, right? if that's true, and they're essentially a mustang body, i don't think that would fit in a case designed for a 25.5" guitar, as my mustang barely squeaked into my strat case. just reaching at this point.

fact is, this guy got a vintage musicmaster, with a vintage case. what're the odds that anything modern was stored in it for a long enough time period for the ferrules to form an indention, and why?

Well I finally got the Telecaster down from its case and tried it in the Musicmaster case - and it fit. The MM case is definitely shorter than the standard Fender case for Teles and Strats - but the Telecaster fit fine - so maybe someone had a Telecaster stored in there for a long time? I would have thought the Tele would not fit -

Well, you expect that with the scale differences that Jaguars and Mustangs would be much shorter than strats and Teles, but they probably make up for that by having big arses. I'd have to get up out of my chair and walk two steps over to the other side of this room to actually check this, but I won't. The only guitar I've ever had trouble with in that respect is my Burns Batwing which has a really rather ridiculously huge head, combined with its reverse-offset butt makes it impossible to fit into a case as it adds about 5 inches more than an average strat.
