NGD: 1969 Competition Mustang
Cruising eBay yesterday, doing my regular searches, and noticed this competition mustang listed in with the jaguars. (I definitely have a sweet spot for these, and having missed a really nice purple burst locally for $1300, I always told myself if i found one for a good deal i would try and grab it up.)
I've always like the blue (burgundy) ones better, ( i hate red guitars) but after the sauerkraut story, Ive developed a thing for aged CAR. I love the bronze it fades too.
I look it over, and see its good the perfect amount of seasoning, i find lots of vintage guitars have ugly wear, but this one just looks amazing.
I offered him $1K, although once i noticed another person had offered on it, i seriously considered just buying it now, my gas was hitting hard.
He came back with an offer of $1100, and we finally settled where we did.

these routinely go for more than that... especially the earlier ones with the matching headstock.Rox wrote:Nice lil warhorse . But for even $1100 in that condition you can find a lot better . This guy is crazy to ask that for that guitar .

i know the paint was supposed to be poly by '69, but the matching headstock mustangs seem to age in exactly the same way as nitro finishes. maybe it was a poly topcoat or only poly on the backs of the necks? it's definitely not the same paint the used on the later compstangs, my '72 (the current mikestang) is proper bulletproof poly.
anyway, i like the CAR ones, and this is a particularly sexual example. good buy.
