Jeannie Pickguards: Billy bollocks or half-decent stuff?

Post by ekwatts »

I want a black pickguard to replace the UTTERLY ATROCIOUS TORT that somebody had misguidedly decided would be a hot look for a sunburst Jaguar, but I'm having trouble tracking one down, or at least figuring out whether or not it will fit a CIJ Jag. Jeannie Pickguards do one for cheaps. Are they any good? I've seen some bad feedback on the eBay page, and I'm sure I remember somebody saying they had a bad experience with them before.

EK - there's a whole thread on Jeannies somewhere where I spout off. Trust me even if the guy has no interpersonal skills at and is a fucking arse to deal with, the Jag HH tort guard I had made was fucking TERRIBLE printed dotty stuff EVEN THOUGH I'D PREVIOUSLY STATED I DID NOT WANT DOTTY STUFF. Do not do. EVER.

I think the Offsetters rather liked Stew Macs tort but of course then you gotta get it cut....Rob OG?

www.allparts.uk.com usually have them for reez cheaps but they're out of stock of that colour at the moment.

May need to check compatibility with them.

lol, fuck. The guy is an idiot.

I'll probably just go with a black guard from that Guitarpartsresource place Fran posted. It's basically exactly the same price in the end anyway.

For the record, the Aurora Project did good work on my custom Gibson Marauder pickgaurd, but they:
  • Apparently didn't receive my cheque and tracing for 2 weeks
  • Took days to respond to emails
  • MADE IT IN THE WRONG COLOUR
When I pulled them up on it, they were like "Oh.. sorry. Send it back, and we'll make you a new one for free in white", but given the ordeal it took to get the first one I actually paid for, I figured I'd hold onto the black one. So yeah, fuck them too.

I went with Pickguardian once for a CIJ acrylic tort. It looks okay but didn't fit round the lead switch plate. Again, as they're American and it took ages I couldn't be bothered to send it back. Silly I know.

ek, if you want to try it I'll post it to you. You can have the thing. I can't justify charging someone for it.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm actually getting rid of the tort. I'm fairly certain the one on here is an aftermarket as it really doesn't fit very well itself, particularly around the lower bout switch plate. It makes me sad that some sick fuckers think tort is an appropriate colour for sunburst. Or anything, actually.

I just want a nice plain 3-ply white or black pickguard for it. That fits. Which seems, on the evidence of much of the wrangling that appears to have gone on over this stuff, to be extremely hard. The only thing that's stopping me just buying the GPR one is the fear of comedy taxes on something that only costs £25 in total.
