Unintentional Noise Machine

Post by cobascis »

So as I was sitting trying to true bypass mod my Behringer VD-1 that Hotrod kindly sent me for FREE, I connected two previously cut wires and got this:

Pretty sweet! How is this happening? I would leave it like that just to make noise on my board, but when I hit the switch it cuts the signal completely, so there would be no bypass signal. Anyone know a way around this? I'd love to keep the crazy sounds, but have a working true bypass (Looking at all the solder-monkeys making pedals everyday).
I didn't delve into this in the video, but I just tried it out. I can play guitar into the pedal and I get the muff sound, but that oscilating thing is going, which sounds incredible. Sort of like trying to play the Eau Claire Thunder while holding down the feedback switch. I reallly want to keep it like this if I can get the Muff working in TB, and make this switchable. Sooo awesome.

"That's real irritating!"

You may have just created a feedback loop connecting the in and out of the pedal? like the one in the ECT.

lol, was that your mam yellin at you in the background?

pretty trick that you can alter it with the knorbs.

once when i was big into getting stoned and hooking up noise machines in my parents basement, i connected a hamer LP copy into a stereo mixer, then into a roland sp808, and then back into the mixer, and the mixer became this crazy ass noise machine where all the knobs only tweaked this crazy sound that came through, and nothing else.

i recorded it, and definitely have to track it down and post it. it was mental.

One more thing to add to my breakout box: a feedback switch/knob.
Lots of great effects were made by accident. The Great Destroyer, for example, was from aen using the "wrong" IC chip. The "right" chip is a shitty overdrive, the "wrong" one makes a Great Destroyer.

If you can wire the beast to be always on then true bypassing it should be simple. Then if you want you can add a toggle for the feedback later (switch sends output signal back into the circuits imput)

Does the original switch still work? If so just keep the switch "on" then insulate the hell out of it and run your effect in/out wires from the og footswitch to your 3pdt

I can do this, but the problem is that the pedal was not working before this happened. So I have to fix the true bypass (See HALP thread), then this is possible. Bill Oakley is figurin' it out for me.

SWEEET!! Just made it footswitchable with an old DPTP
