Squier Jaguars and Jazzmasters?
Moderated By: mods
I did my first real guitar modification to the most expensive guitar I own and it worked. And now I've got the hunger. I just want to drill, drill, drill, baby.
Srsly though, I wouldn't mind a guitar I can just mod half to death. The Jazzmaster seems to fit the bill for me.

I think the answer to this is pretty simple, make the Squier models too similar to regular Jazzmasters/Jaguars and people will stop buying the more expensive models and get these instead, with the cash saved you can upgrade the cheaper bits and add regular bridges/tremolos - however with the strat jack hole this makes it a whole lot more difficult as it will need to be filled and refinished to hide the hole. When you look at it this way the strat jack makes a whole lot of sense.ekwatts wrote:
*Apart from that fucking strat socket. WHY. It keeps making me really angry when I think about it. Why did they do that? It doesn't make sense. It's such a stupid, senseless thing to do. It just ruins the whole fucking thing. It's very, very, very nearly completely offputting. It's just so stupid, random and pointless. Why do it? Surely that adds a few dollars to the production cost? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to just mount it on the pickguard instead of taking the existing JM guard, leaving out one of the hole and installing the tone control where the jack would normally be, and then wiring it all up and simply screwing it on? Do they just like to give the little kids working in the Indonesian factories something extra to do? What the fuck. Fucking idiots.
I actually quite like them, if I was looking to buy a £200 quid guitar i'd buy one. At the end of the day it's the feel and the sound of a guitar that is important to me, not the position of the jack socket.
I don't think they are white plastic tuners. James pointed out before that they might have just turned them to face the camera so they're not picking up many reflections. If you look at the Jazzmaster they aren't as perfectly aligned as on the Jag and there appears to be some light and shade that you wouldn't see on a plastic button.robroe wrote:just the fact that they put white plastic tuners on this thing has me jizzed

To me it looks like fender is flooding the market with jag and jazz varients that will
ultimately cause massive confusion for anybody who becomes interested in the legacy
of the original versions. Also why release these when they just released the blacktop
line especially if they will be priced at just a hundred dollars less than the blacktops

+ 1, looks a lot better than the blacktop stuff.johnnyseven wrote:

I'll definitely check out the Jazzmaster. Maple neck /blonde looks damn cool, it could even make me eat that supposed-to-be-ugly-bridge
Those look pretty.robroe wrote:solution #2.
buy this for 229 and swap out the fucking neck for around 100 bucks.
then you got yourself something that actually looks like it is supposed to for 330 bucks....im sure these will cost at least 350

I really like the JM. Black pickguards on natural colors are my favorite. I also like the strat jack. I think they hold up better in the long run. Add a bigsby and you're good to go.
After all, these are "vintage modified". I appreciate the fact they are trying new things at a lower price point. If everything was out there was period-correct, it would be a boring world.
I will now run for cover.

Absolutely agreed. I fucking love that white strat and it's all to do with the way it looks. The pickguard, the body and the neck mesh perfectly. If that thing had some bright satin finish it would look gash. Similarly a Jaguar or Jazzmaster, whether or not they're as faithful as the nerds that are going to slag them off anyway want them to be, they just wouldn't look right without some tinting on the neck. And it looks fine. I don't know why people get so damn upset over a neck tint.
Would they rather sunburst colours went from anaemic off-white wood colour to a dark brown? Bollocks they would. That would look shite. But hey, at least they wouldn't be artificially tinting the natural wood colour, the monsters.
