In case you haven't seen them yet, the expensive Fender Japan flat-tops are now in production and are available at Ishibashi. Ash on the front and back of an alder body, binding all over the place.
¥151,200
¥147,000
Seifukyusa was facebooking stuff here and there today, and got my attention. Funny thing, Cindi and I were >this close< to joining him on a trip to Fukuoka for the new year, maybe next time.

If it comes in at $1,850 it's much more likely to be £1,850 than it is £1,200. Though I guess being Fender Japan it wouldn't follow their usual pattern.

Fender Japan is the only fender I respect anymore... minus their prices.

Wow, Fender Japan are amazing. The Jaguar sound will work beautifully with a hollow body.

You're right. It'd probably be cheaper in the long run to commission a custom semi-hollow Jag body.
I don't know how much it'd cost to get binding like that, though. A bunch.

If you squint your eyes just right, it's kind of Framus 5/188-like, come to think of it.

I love the f hole jag but binding on the f hole would have been a nice touch. It'll definitely be interesting to see what sort of price these are or if they're even available in the UK or US outside of the usual import it yourself methods and ebay sellers who import it for you and charge a premium.
I wonder if these will come with better pickups than the standard MIJ jaguars.

This look really cool. I'm not sure binding would work, there's sort of not enough space there for that much visual stuff going on.

The Framus is better. The Jazzmaster looks like an unfinished project, with that finish and lack of contours. One of the things I like about Fender guitars is the unadorned, utilitarian nature they have. Even with the Jags and Jazzies originally being the more upscale choices in the Fender lineup they were far more spartan than just about everything Gretsch made. I like the idea of making these models more hollow, but the aesthetics just don't sit well with me.
