- Amp effects loops - Low Gain Low Need ? -

Post by 24HRS2MDNT »

Been trying out a more fully featured head over the weekend - Laney Lionheart 20 watt. It has a buffered parallel effects loop. It is a vox style clean amp with a mild overdrive boost channel.

I don't really hear any difference except for having to adjust the dry effetcs level to compensate for the parallel amp loop. I tried it with a Reptile Delay and a Phase 100. With clean and overdriven amp settings I just don't hear anything convincing me that this is a feature that I need.

I did find that it was not possible to drown out the dry signal when using a parallel effects loop. There will always be at least a certain level of the dry signal. For low to moderate gain players (Curtis Mayfield - Ween - Gang of Four) this kind of loop might mean less control.

Any thoughts on this or photos of sexy women on rollerskates?

I have never found the need to use the loop on any of my amps...maybe I am missing something.

The only time I'd use an fx loop is when using amp drive and I wanted my delay not to sound gash. But fuck two extra cables back and forth to get that function. After experimenting, i got a delay sounding pretty nice in front of a driven amp.

Interesting to actually check one out. Amp effects loops seem like a hassle. Cheers Thom and Progrockabuse. I guess that kind of no-nonse point of view is what I like about this forum. Didn't mean to offend Mike, here's one for you.

Neither of my amps have an FX loop and i've never used one. My dirt comes from pedals anyway with all my effects in my chain after the dirt.

I don't use them often at all, but they can be very useful.

FX LOOP USES
Jumped and used as a gain boost (applies more to tube driven FX Loop)
Amplifier diagnosis (is the problem in my preamp or power amp?)
Zero volume recording (with speaker emulation)
Slaving (running another amps preamp into this amps power to run moar cabs etc)

prob more that i can't think of right now.

I used to think like this till I tried my Radical Red Reverberator in the FX-Loop and I started experimenting more. I found I don't like my delays or chorus there. I like my reverb and as others have mentioned for crispy clean sounds a la Hill Song/TGP more than HCFX (IMHO, YMMV, et cetera)

No. Memes have to catch on. We're going to stamp this one's balls in before it has a chance.

This is a fucking embarrassment.

Yo. Babes have to catch on. We're going to jump on this one balls out before I start a dance.

This is fucking empowering.

I quite like this refreshing presence of roller skating girls. It doesn't have to be a meme, just a one-off, like glimpsing a shooting star.
