do you regret...
selling your toronado?
i've seen a lot of lament on these forums about this issue, and i am one step away from disposing of this beautiful monstrosity that has been in my possession ever since i have played the electric guitar. i'm over the sentimental value, but i can't help but shake the feeling that the uniqueness of this instrument is a thing that may be worth something a couple of years down the line... still, i am pretty convinced that it is a pos for my playing style and aesthetics at this point, but i don't want to throw away what might be a good thing (but i really need the cash)...
so as you can see i'm a little bit torn... do *you* regret selling your toronado and why? do you think these strange little fellas will increase in cult value over the years, despite the fact that their prices have only seemed to depreciate over time?
(PS i am specifically speaking of a black deluxe model... all those other incarnations which came after just seem repulsive to me...)

ps i am deaccessing this instrument in order to pick up either a musicmaster bass amp or a sweet little wooden alamo number from the 50's... so i feel that the new acquisition's asset value might trump the instrument no matter what as these are almost sure the increase in value over time, no? apologies for talking about gear as if it were stock trading... but i can't afford to even own gear right now unless its A) perfect for my style (cv duosonic) or B) going to appreciate over time (almost nothing i own as of now)...
cheers!
cheers!

If this is how you feel, get something you will play the shit out of instead.elklotzy wrote:i am pretty convinced that it is a pos for my playing style and aesthetics at this point

I personally preferred my GT model over the Deluxe. I suppose i was associated with the GT model in an un-famous way, my images come up on the first page of a google search as do my threads (usually). I also got lots of random emails about the model and actually inspired some users that bought one lol.
In hindsight i should have hung on to the Toronado but when my band died i felt it had to go as the association was strong.
If you want to get rid of it go ahead but you'll be pushed to find another and yes they will (and have) increased in value. Just remember the grass is not always greener. Put aesthetics aside. The Toronado is one of the best Fenders i have owned.

The release of the HH Jag and affordability of the Jagmaster killed the Toronado. But in my opinion neither are as good including the Vista Series Jagmaster.
People always gravitate to tradition with guitars (especially Fender) and its very rare a new unique design survives. The Toronado is a one off like the Performer, stuff like Cyclones had Mustang bodies or almost identical.

I haven't played any of the toronado models since the first MIM deluxe series one. But I loved those, and I still do, I would love to pick one up if I found one for the right price. The toronado and the cyclone were the first guitars that got me into the lesser common oddball fender guitars so I will always have a certain sense of nostalgia towards them.

I tried trading a guy in the Dallas area my CAR Jagmaster for a Black Deluxe Toronado. I felt the Toronado would have held better trade value and I was kinda excited to try it out. That said, I have not found a humbucker guitar that I have gotten along with except for the Tele Deluxe. I love the body shape, but would rather have a Squier Supersonic or Mustang instead.

I like my Deluxe . I wish it had the original pickups in it instead of Phat Cats though . I did eventually replace the Phat Cats for a SD Mayhem set . The thing screams . I think the neck is fine . If any complaints it tends to sound dark compared to my other guitars . Tend to need to brighten it up with the amp. I don't think I'd sell mine . If anything I might eventually get another that is bone stock . The one I currently own I might have a Mustang Trem fitted to it . Plus another custom tort pickguard so it won't look like ass.
I wouldn't sell it . They are getting harder to come by in decent shape .

I like the look of the ones with the small pickguard and the ones with the stripey bit. I played Empire's at Progfest and it was really nice to play but don't know where it was made or owt.
To be honest, unless you're totally skint, is the money you'd get for it worth more than the sentimental value? There's a couple of guitars I wish i'd kept but then again at the time the money seemed a lot....now that I'm on grown up (but modest) wages, not so much.

There is that. I wish i'd kept my first couple even if they sat in a case in the loft doing nothing, but im quite nostalgic about things like that. But to some people a guitar is just a tool made mostly of wood to make music with.Dave wrote:There's a couple of guitars I wish i'd kept but then again at the time the money seemed a lot....now that I'm on grown up (but modest) wages, not so much.

I reread this comment and kinda resent it ( not too insulted though ) . A Jagmaster has nothing on a Toro . Not even a Vista . Vistas are overrated . Yeah , they're good but they ain't got shit on a Toro or Jag HH Special . An HH Jag is a different sound . It doesn't compete with the Toro . Different sound , different scale , etc . Toros were made to try to steal some of the Les Paul buyers but failed . Les Paul players are a different breed to a Jazzy or Toro player. Guitars have different characteristics .. Don't even have to go into it . Most of you know .

i've said it before, and i'll do it once more: you're out of your fucking mind, guy. vista jagmasters blow any fender twin-humbucker guitar, made post-vista, completely out of the water. i really don't believe that you've spent much time with one, because they're built much better, and sound 100x more the way they should, right out of the box. i'm incredulous at how hard you drive on this point, but how you "don't even have to go into it[space][period]"
it's fucking fact.

I think Rox misread my post but anyway...
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and mine is what i said.
A HH Fender is a HH Fender, i dont care what scale it is and its never gonna be a Les Paul but if your gonna do it try to do it right.
The Vista Jagmaster i had was a good guitar because it has a CIJ Jaguar neck but the pickups were garbage compared to the Duncan designed 59 and Pearly Gates in the Toronado.
The HH Jaguar i had was sonically lacklustre, i even modified it to single coils, yeah really, does'nt say much for a HH. Decent player but a bit of a half arse design.
If you are gonna 'rock up' a Fender then the Toronado GT wins for me. Jumbo frets, quality pickups, flatter radius and mahogany body (arguably 'better').
