What pickups have you put in your Mustang?

Post by letsgocoyote »

So I got a Mustang, I really like it alot. The pickups aren't bad either, but I may want to change them for fun in the future to tailor the sound a bit more, and to maybe get lower noise.

I'd like to get something mellow and cheerful sounding in the neck position, probably something thats wound fairly weak, and I'd like something with a bit more aggressive bite than the stock bridge pickup (but it needn't be as hot as a p90 or anything).

thinking of laces or emg selects. i think the emg select would be a good choice but it only comes in one winding strength
maybe gfs

the vintage mustang neck pickup is "mellow and cheerful". it sounds really great actually. so I would recommend something like that.

for the bridge you'll want to try something a little warmer/hotter. something like a lot of the rail pickups people are suggesting. if you do an sjag3 a.k.a. 1/4 lb. I think you'll want to increase the pot values to 500k or 1m.

I notice Duncan do Mustang Antiquitys but unfortunately nothing else. Still, like Rob said, any Strat pickup will fit so the choice is endless.
