Fret Buzz on Fenders

Post by George »

Who has fret buzz on their Fender/Squier? I'm not talking about boi-oi-oing through the amp, just acoustically or maybe a whisper at some point on the neck, any string? I ask because I'm having pains trying to get a 100% no buzz with a sensible action and it just isn't possible.

If you say you do post demos you fucking liar!

Part of that buzz is because I'm too damn lazy do adjust truss rods when they're at the butt of the neck . . .

I also went from 12s to 11s and haven't messed with. I don't notice it through the amp though.

I have never met an electric with no buzz, I even had the frets leveled on my LP Standard and the Tech that did it said its impossible to get a buzz free electric, he use to tech for Clapton so I tend to believe him and trust his knowledge.....

low action equals more buzz

but u never should hear the buzz thru the amp...if thats the case something is deffinately jacked up.... I am referring to the small buzzes u hear when u play it unplugged

Really? I've no problems with fret buzz on any of the guitars I own. Save maybe the Hagstrom Viking, and that's just because I've not set it up in a while. With most Fenders you can raise strings easily. Raise those strings!

Presently I've got the CVC set up as per Fender spec with .010 relief etc etc. I can't make it buzzless unless I raise action to way over 6/64" which isn't comfortable or fast. Having googled it a lot of people say it's normal; I think it's that I have to play at such a low volume with the amp on the other side of the room that I hear the buzz louder than the amp. It drives me loopy and never bothered me before because I only used to play beaters that I resigned to being a bit knackered. The brand new CVC, that's a different matter.

there is always some buzz. the few first oscillations of a string will always hit the next fret, you may not hear it but it's there. you also can cause severe buzz by hitting the strings hard, on any guitar. there's really no reason to be paranoid about the buzz. sometimes it even sounds nice.

I'm not trying to be a richard when I say this, but it just sounds like u need more volume man....... ur gonna hear all that little stuff when u have a new guitar that u love and yes it will drive u insane because its new..... if it plays great and sounds ace thru the amp I do not think u should have a worry..... electrics are ment to jam loud any way...

I find the louder I play the more fun I have

find ur compromise between action and buzz......... ???

george did you switch the saddles as well? I know a lot of people said that when moving to 10s only a quarter turn on the truss should sort it out. with 9s it seemed ok but when I really dug in it would buzz but everything does when I do that so I thought it was normal.

Yeah it was only a quarter turn, bang on Fender spec. I think it's a volume thing or sitting nearer to my amp that might help. Plus new strings probably doesn't help.

No buzz on my Aerodyne Tele. I have it strung with .11s (unwound G :/ ) currently and action is not high. It had some buzz when I got it, but I enjoy doing setups, so it wasn't long before I cleared it out.

There shouldn't be any buzz on my Aerodyne Jazz Bass, but I haven't really played it in a while and the last setup adjustments were in the spring, it likely needs some work to play completely smooth too.

I haven't checked my Jag, 'cause it's in a case in another room and I'm lazy :P

My Godin takes a fair bit of work to clear out the buzz, I think some of that has to do with the HSS config and magnetic pull on the strings. I do manage to get it playing clear, though with enough messing around.

I haven't managed to kill all (noticeable) fret buzz on my Schecter Hellcat VI though. Without adjustable saddles, I just haven't put the time into the set up to completely clear it. It doesn't come through the amp though, so it's not SO bad :P

Aside from a fucked neck or bending high up on a 7.25 radius it's never impossible to have low action and no buzzes. Not been beaten by a guitar yet but I'm super anal about setting them set up for my weak baby paws.

i noticed last night the low e on my jagstang was giving me some trouble but that was just becuz the last kid that played pushed the bridge all the way back and out of the middle position, i pushed it back and presto, good as gold.
there will always be acoustic buzz, but you don't play your electric acoustic, so whats the problem if it doesn't come thru on the amp?
