Rebuilding my first project

Post by Addam »

You might remember my Jagstang project

I've already installed the tune-o-matic, rerouted the neck pocket for a slightly wider neck heel and screwed the neck on.

I have some P90s

The neck has a paddle-head, so will need to shape it, my favorite shape is the big CBS-Fender style, but this isn't big enough.
So, I designed this, inspired by Gibson Firebird and Epiphone Wilshire.

I'm gonna cut a new pickguard to try and cover up where the old bridge was.
I'm thinking about a no-name jazzmaster trem too?

EDIT- looking at that headstock design, I think it looks a bit thin- the end needs fattening up a bit.

You got plenty of wood on that headstock. Cut off the excess above the tuners. Glue it where ya need it. Just need some titebond wood glue and a clamp.

Made some progress after my trem arrived, made template and routed the hole for the trem to sit in.

Used most of the shape of the old pickguard as a template to make the template for the new one. I want to do some final shaping of the part near the controls.
I placed some parts together to get an idea of how it will look finished.
The new pickguard will be black like the old one.

Still need to route the cavities for the pickups, and work out where to put the toggle switch.

the whole thing has a dali vibe to it. you should cut a clear pickguard, and affix a picture of those melting clocks as the background. i'm just kidding, or am i?

I saw that you made this body based on a trace of your jag-stang. Any chance I could snag a copy of your template?

When finished, this could be the greatest punk rock machine ever built.

Thanks for the posivive comments!

I got my pickguard blank, and it's too fucking small! Bastards!!!
The bigger 3 ply items are a bit much for my wallet, so I have some black 3mm acrylic coming at about a third of the cost.

Taylor- My original Jagstang template got damaged, then damp, so it got binned.
I am working on new JS templates (and a batch of others)
How about one with Mustang routes and a reworked lower horn to take a stock mustang pickguard?
