Designing my own Headstock?

Post by taylornutt »

I got this idea about trying to design my own headstock based on my favorite Fender Headstocks. I love the Fender Jaguar/Mustang headstock and recently discovered the Fender Starcaster headstock as well. I combined the 2 designs and came up with 4 different variations of it. Vote on your favorite and leave feedback to why you like it.

I voted #3. If you could do the shape of the Starcaster without the bevel (which is what that sort of looks like), that'd be a unique look.

Neither? #3 looks best but its just the starcaster with the bevel hacked off. Looks good but is too small. Keep the width of the jaguar but make it flip around like the starcaster a bit.

If you're going to design your own then design your own. Don't just go for something that's close to fender but not quite.

I have to agree with this. None of those 4 designs stand out to me.

When you say without the bevel, do you mean cutout like number 3 (sharpie outline) or have the full Starcaster shape just don't do any beveling?

I am kinda approaching it from "Jag-stang" perspective, piecing together my favorite parts to come up with something different. Most designers will start with something and work from there. If divine inspiration hits, I will go with it, but I am still flushing out ideas.

I agree about it being too small. I love the size of both the Jaguar and Starcaster headstocks. These suggestions are very helpful and get me thinking more.
