i hardly ever adjust my tone.. but i've been thinking more that i could live without volume, if i tossed in a kill switch.
mind.. the placement has to go. just cut it out and put a kill switch between the tone pot and the output jack.

its a thought.

I could definitely live without a volume knob - my Dano reissue was modded to only have tone. I just like to have my tone back about half way all the time.

My question is, does anyone have a guitar by this company and are they any good? There's a wide range of quality in this knock-off guitar market, even across the different 'brands' that Rondo Music sells..

I think I could learn to love its ugly neck. I would just have to play it once to know if I liked it.. and that's the problem with internet guitar shopping

i just found out that one of the local shops here carries these, i'm going to have to wander down there tomorrow and check it out

i think they just bring in one or two, and toss a bit extra on the sticker price from what i recall
they also carry the rondo guitars so, should i make it down i'll try and see if they will let me make a video demo.

Is the Mustang bridge an attempt to keep the strings in the slots better than the many-slots of the Jazzmaster/Jaguar bridge provides? Sorry, new to the shortscale Fender world.

i wouldn't call it an attempt so much as a retrofit. works for me, but robbie (portugalwillie) swears he prefers the jazz/jag bridge. depends on how hard you strum, i guess.

i'm not sure i'd bother with a 'real fender tailpiece,' as with those other mods you're getting into blacktop territory.

I had a Mustang bridge with gaps between the saddles, did not like. The saddles kept adjusting themselves when I'd whack and bend strings.

I was just looking at the Warmoth "Modified Mustang" to try and understand why it was better. Make sense though. If I get one of these, I think I'd just play it stock until something drove me crazy and I had to change it.

I'm probably in the minority on this issue. Every 'Stang bridge I play I knock out of the saddles. For me it comes down to this

Mustang bridge - self aligns the strings and probably has a bit better sustain but I know them out of the saddles and individual saddles are not height adjustable

Jag bridge - does not self align strings and probably has a bit less sustain. Individual saddles are adjustable for height and after filing the string slots in the right spot, they do (kind of self align) and they don't slip out of place.

I suppose you could file a mustang's bridge slots to they won't slip as well. So really, I see flaws and advantages with both, which is why I just play it with whatever the fuck is on the guitar when I get it.

Yeah those are whack. The '65 RI bridges are proper, though.

Of course, but I don't think the Blacktop Fenders are instruments I'd keep stock, so I'd be upgrading one if I got one anyway. It's still better to start with the Xaviere in my opinion because they're routed for two Jazz pickups. I'd want a different neck on that Blacktop for sure. 9.5" just doesn't do it for me.

So, I ordered one of these over the weekend. I haven't received any shipping confirmation yet, but I'm hoping to have it by the end of the week. Couple things to note for people interested...and this is all based on what I've seen on offset guitars:

- The body is smaller than a real JM / Jag. It's similar in size to a strat body
- Mustang bridge would not work as the necks are really flat, supposedly close to a 12" radius
- Any strat neck will fit, though the neck pocket is not quite as deep as a real JM

I bought this for purposes of modding...my plan is to swap the neck out with a 24.75" Warmoth conversion neck, put Lollar pickups in it, install an AVRI trem, and rewire it with some quality electronics. The thing that attracted me about these is that unlike the blacktop JM, I wouldn't have to route the bridge pickup out. And unlike the Squier JM, it doesn't have that retarded and totally unnecessary strat jack. I also quite like the idea of a smaller body, and the fact that the trem is closer to the bridge like a Classic Player model. Will probably make a new thread when I get it
