Epi LP Custom Gold -> Silver

Post by brandon. »

When I started playing guitar, I had already been playing bass for a year. I was 14, and knew that I wanted my first guitar to be a keeper. I wasn't interested in strats at all, I wanted something to keep for years to come. I was obsessed with gibson style guitars (an obsession that has passed and is long dead). I loved LPs and SGs and had my heart set on something like them.

Went to the guitar shop and saw a white LP Custom for a greatly reduced price because of a custom painted decal on the body. The thing had a bucking bronco painted on it. It didn't matter to me at all, I thought it was cool. Anyways, white with gold hardware was pretty wicked to a 14 year old.

Since getting my jazzmaster 6 years ago, the LP was packed away at grandmas. I always planned to swap the gold (I developed a strong hatred for it) but put it off again and again. Well, tonight was the night. I brought this baby out of retirement. I swapped out the hardware with a beat up old SG project that I had and here we are.

Here's the partial before (I got excited and forgot to document the thrilling process of taking out the bridge and tailpiece studs.):

SILVER! (ignore the gold switch, on the shopping list)
- GFS Retrotron in the Neck
- GFS Mean 90 in the bridge

One of these things is not like the other:
- high e is different, another piece for the shopping list.

have the nut, just wasn't on in the picture. all is well now.
I would love bronco knobs, but I need a new 3 way switch and high e tuner first! Priorities!

The pickups are awesome, I'm totally happy with them. The neck is mellow with high end sparkle. The bridge sounds just like every other p90 bridge I've had and I love it.

When I first got the guitar 10 years ago, I mostly played punk rock...
I've been playing through nofx records all evening. SLATFATS!

Looks ace! The Bronco decal is actually pretty cool. The idea of Bronco knobs is awesome. Great pickup choices.

Wut? Am I the only one who thinks that the bronco needs to go to a greener pasture? Otherwise it's a very cool guitar!

I misread the title as Epi LP... Custom Gold -> Silver, and was expecting a thread choc full of a delightful scumbag exfoliation and arduous refin. Nice to see it otherwise, a fat body and hot single coils is pure delight.

Here's mine

Two Hot Liverpool Retrotrons. I got Retrotrons mainly for a Gretsch/ Billy Zoom look. The guitar was completely painted black ( binding too). I was lucky the guy didn't sand it before painting, still, I damaged the top and had to completely refinish the back. Mistakes were made. At least it doesn't look like this anymore
